The rule said that you're allowed to change your line once. But Petrov didn't make any moves while Hamilton's weaving, he tried to keep the sleepstream. So for me it was no so dangerous, but spectacular For sure, last year or in 2008 he would have a drive through penalty or a 25 seconds penalty after the raceswca92 wrote:Have they looked into Hamilton's weaving??? He was probably trying to break the tow but it was still dangerous what he did and shouldn't become a regular occurence.

Good, considering he was waved through and couldn't do anything about it.iceman1 wrote:Btw, Vettel has escaped penalty on his late race yellow flag incident.

Your interpretation is easily wrong. I think well deserved penalty should have been awarded Looks like race stewards are too forgiving this year!Mitsuro Sano wrote:The rule said that you're allowed to change your line once. Petrov has impressive(showed no fear ). Force India is making itself proud .. another double point finish miss! A Great drive by sutil too prove critics wrong.
MSC may not be same on track like before but devotion to the sport is still unmatched... unlike other drivers after technical issue didn't left pits. Sad to see DNF of my fav's bcoz small wheel nuts

Hamilton is the only driver who passed 300Km/h - FIA.
All drivers who qualified from 8th to 12th retired or didn't start (DLR)

It's surprising that Massa leads the WDC. He's been very quiet, but when you think about it, also very consistent.
Hamilton deserved more than a warning though. A drive-through would have been too harsh, but I'd have told him (if I were the stewards) to give the place back to Petrov and try again, without the weaving.

James Allen on Hamiltons move:
At first sight it appeared that Hamilton was weaving, but what made the incident unusual was that Petrov was not diving around trying to pass the McLaren on the straight, he was trying to stay in his slipstream to get a tow. However he was pretty close to the back of the McLaren and after Hamilton moved to the inside for Turn 1, Petrov went around the outside and tried to pass him, so you could argue that he was trying to pass him all along and was being blocked. Does this make what Hamilton did weaving or just shaking off a tow?
It is interesting that the stewards thought he was weaving and warned him at the time, but let him off without penalty. This sends out the signal that they felt what he did was dangerous, but not dangerous enough to require sanction.
So, with F1 walking a fine line with the potential lack of excitement due to the rule changes, it seems that the message from the stewards at the moment is that they want to encourage overtaking. It would have been interesting to see how this story might have taken off differently had it been a front running Ferrari or Mercedes driver Hamilton was trying to shake off.

Btw, what is it with Barrichello and his starts? He never faced such problems during his Ferrari-times, according to Autosport it was the clutch again...
Re: 2010 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix
For me the Hamilton/Petrov fight was the best one of the race and I don't get it that people are bitching around now because of Hamilton's move. I think it was exciting. I always considered this "only-one-change-of-direction"-agreement unnecessary and anyway it's just an agreement, not a rule, isn't it?JoostLamers wrote:James Allen on Hamiltons move:

Re: 2010 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix
^Amen, the last thing they need to do now is to punish 'debatable' moves. And Petrov said afterwards nothing about Hamilton being unfair, the only thing he said was that it was a great fight and he was having fun.

Barrichello made the most Overtaking moves (7), Lewis hamilton did (5) without counting the first lap.

I bet you would have reversed your opinion if we had Massa/Alonso/X in Hamilton's position and Hamilton in petrov's place.JoostLamers wrote:^Amen, the last thing they need to do now is to punish 'debatable' moves. Mr. Ecclestone thinks F1 2010 still Boring
Kimi's fans at the Malaysian GP:
I have a better Idea, let Hamilton start from the 20th Position in every race :PYallaF1.com wrote:Even though Melbourne and Sepang hosted two exciting races within eight days, Bernie Ecclestone believes F1 still needs to implement changes.
After the debut of the sport’s new refuelling ban era produced a highly-criticised processional race in Bahrain, rain is taking at least some of the credit for the better spectacles witnessed at the next two races in 2010.
Before sodden Sepang shook up the grid order for the Malaysian GP, F1 supremo Ecclestone met with team bosses on Friday to discuss the problem of boring races.
“Don’t be fooled,” the 79-year-old is quoted as saying by the Telegraph. “We have been lucky with the rain. We have got to do something.
“For the first time the teams have realised that they have to do something about it. We don’t need reverse grids, we just need more overtaking,” said Ecclestone.
Asked what could be done, he suggested F1 should “make the front wing smaller and get rid of the double diffuser”.
