Lotus now will have less mileage to complete before the start of the season, not the ideal situation although the team looks confident.

The biggest rule changes for years and a team wants to skip four of 12 days of running as it's 'not relevant.'

Yeah, okay...

I guess they won't just miss the first test in Jerez. It's going to be an exciting season!

Cant believe Lotus aren't turning up. Caterham and Marussia I take it, yet Lotus aren't? Id be seriously worried if I was Grosjean or Maldanado.

What is powering the Lotus in 2014?

Renault is listed as an official partner but as far as I'm aware nothing's been officially confirmed yet.

Saving money (they haven't got) before the season has even started?

There was a time when teams used to unveil their new car part way through the F1 season and no-one batted an eyelid. That was a very different time though when there was a lot of stability in the rules year on year.

I just can't believe a team like Lotus is struggling financially, missing tests and not paying drivers. They've won two championships in recent history for crying out loud. Something is fundamentally wrong with the way money is being managed in that team...

No. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way money is being managed by F~0~M and CVC.

No, Genii overspent money which they never had. They don't have a title sponsor. They relied on joint ownership with the Lotus Manufacturer which they pulled out in 2011. Ever since then, they have failed to secure a main sponsor, and its Genii's own fault.

Genii have been too greedy. They were poised to sell the team in 2012 but when Kimi won in Abu Dhabi, Genii turned round and demanded more money, thus turning back on an agreed price because they thought a single win would make the team more valuable; instead the purchaser stuck two fingers up and pulled out immediately. Genii is going down because they spent what they didn't have and were too greedy in selling the team. The overspent and to be honest, they didn't achieve what they needed too to recoup the money. I dont feel any sorrow for anyone apart from the old Renault guys and the drivers. It has been run poorly with poor owners.

I know its dire for all the teams but Lotus should be much better off than where they're at now. I mean no other team in the paddock doesn't pay its drivers, and Force India managed to hire Hulkenberg and the team didn't make it to the podium even once in the past three four years.

Both of you make fair points. Genii and their leadership team have made mistakes along the way, costing themselves sponsorship deals amongst other things. Although I stand by the fact that F~0~M and CVC are doing a lot of damage to F1 and the financial situation across all teams with the way they take money out of the sport, as opposed to investing it back in.
