It will be interesting to see the 2014 cars and what impact the new technology will have on the racing, however Pirelli as far as I know aren't contracted for next season so I'd like to see who the tire supplier is.

So Renault have unveiled their 2014 engine.

Well done them for revealing it on what will be a quiet news day ensuring maximum publicity.

Yeah, a friend of mine tried to justify F1 to an environmentally conscious person explaining they had introduced KERS suggesting, mistakenly, that it was a move to make the sport "green" and "save energy"... not too sure he actually understood what he was saying ;P

They might have introduced KERS in a bid to increase overtaking, But having KERS is quite good for the environment. KERS uses brake energy and converts it to 80 HP. So instead of having to fuel that power using gas, it's fueled by the braking energy that will otherwise be wasted.

The way I understand it, the 2014 power units will focus more on KERS technology, so overall F1 cars will be more environmental.

That's probably not the type of thing you want to admit to other people.

Before you answer that, ask yourself this; which one has more horsepower?

2014 regulation changes confirmed. Most significant changes:
- The points penalty system for the drivers
- No YDT, but in-season testing returns. Four times a season, each after a European GP weekend
- New tyres will be available at the beginning of FP sessions to encourage teams to go out on track
- Standard pit lane speed limit is change to 80 kp/h instead of 100 kp/h. So basically the time to make a pit stop will increase.

Closer inspection of the rules shows that in 2014 DRS flap can open as wide as 65mm and not the 50mm currently.
I wish they would just get rid of DRS...

Then watch a train of 22 cars like it was before 2011. Do you want that?
We had everything so far without results untill Pirelli came.

We had 1 set of tyres doing full race distance - action/overtakings 0
- and manny more
Didnt we wanted fantastic races back then (Bridgestone times) - we got them!
Didnt we want more overtakings back then (Bridgestone times) - we got them!
So WTF do you pepole want? U get what you want and still not happy? What the hell is wrong with you??

DRS and Pirelli is the best what happened to F1. I admit Silverstone was extreme but all in all we had great races with them. While with Bridgestone only wet races were good.

I don't really care for Pirelli. As long as they make safe tyres. Though I find it a bit ridiculous that tyres last like 5-6 laps. But whatever, I'll deal with that.
However, I've never liked DRS. It's not fair. And I know many things in F1 are far from fair. But DRS makes it (almost) impossible to defend against. You can bring up some counterexamples, like the awesome battle between Hamilton and Alonso in Germany. But still. Most of the time the faster car just leaves the other standing, and it feels like there is no skill behind it. (Not saying that even I would be able to do it, but these guys are the best of the best. Why make it absolutely artificial?)
Sure, I don't want to see a train of 22 cars. But it's not like it's impossible to overtake without DRS. Interestingly, most drivers managed to do it in the past...

Anyways, you have your opinion, and I have mine. We don't have to agree about everything. :O

22 car trains are just as bad as 4 cars getting DRS and drag racing leaving one poor soul to lose 3 positions on a straight with zero fault of his own. DRS' problem is that its too effective and is over used. The art of attack and defend has gone. Thats the problem.

Get rid of the reliance on aerodynamics and try and go back to traction+ power, then its down to the ability to handle the power and manipulate the traction to the best effect.

The overtaking horse has been beaten too much. I dont love DRS + KERS (ie both at the same time), but if it means cars can sometimes overtake, it's good.

Some tracks it's just impossible to overtake in with these cars, and that's bad.

So yeah... This yr has been nice. A mix of overtakes, strategy, some easy DRS and some not so easy...... hopefully the revised tires dont make RB a pole+win car again. I'd stop watching really (like i didnt watch the 2003-2004 seasons) if i see 3 more RB front rows with 3 Vettel wins. He's good, but not that good.
