It's going to be exactly the same as last year isn't it? Remember how sombre everyone was on TV and in the media after the race, I remember Ross Brawn saying F1 must reflect (Link: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/99063) I remember Martin Brundle praising Bahrain before the race then completely changing his tune after it. There were journalists saying the whole episode was shameful and should not happen again. But I doubt F1 has learnt, and the race will just go ahead with the same lines about being there for the sport and it's not up to them to comment on the political situation being trotted out before the weekend. It will bring the same negative publicity for the sport once again.

It's a difficult situation. On one hand you have Fleet St journalists being told to look at the race in lieu of the political situation. I don't know what our side will be, we'll decide that later. But it is extremely difficult to avoid the political situation.

But anyone high-profile that criticises F1 for going to Bahrain is going to turn up on Thursday in Barcelona and find that their paddock pass isn't working.

To be honest, its a shame that the political situation is happening, but to me, both are as bad as each other. its just as shameful IMO to use F1 as propaganda to say everythings ok than it is to threaten the F1 circus with violence for coming to bahrain. Both as bad as each other.

I personally, dont care about the political situtation as I'm watching a sport. If it comes to that, we should certainly not goto Spain because there is such a crisis financially for example. We shouldnt goto china due to their abysmal human rights record. But again, you just cannot think like that.

It's difficult yes. The difference is that Bahrain is using Formula One as a political tool, which is against FIA regulation. In China, that is not done.

No-one was hurt last year and it might be like some areas of London - you stay in the safe areas and don't go in the rough parts. But that shouldn't be the case and I worry that in 2012 there was the big furore around it. Maybe the second time around the danger will be greater if people let their guard drop.

Yeah, Bahrain shouldnt use it as a political tool. Problem is, Bahrain government was using the event being held as an advertisement of peace, the opposing side would use the non happening of the event as a victory.

This is the thing though. Both sides will use F1 as a tool for victory. So how does the FIA go along? The government would accept that F1 would feel unsafe, and have a real crackdown behind closed doors on rioters. But the rioters would publicly say F1 succumbed and they win, just like the government did. Difference is, Bahrain government wouldnt go on the press to threaten the F1 circus which to makes, makes the rioters the same animals as those they are suppose to be fighting against.

And i dont think anybody would drop their guard, if anything I think 2012 would've heightened the guard.

It creates an intriguing situation. Everyone in F1 knows everyone - if someone went missing, they'd notice. So the political elite wouldn't do that.

Similarly, if the protesters cause harm to anyone in the F1 circus, they'd get a lot of negative comments and that would harm their progress as well.

Bahrain paid twice the hosting fee last year. I think if we had another person other than Bernie then F1 wouldn't have returned there.

But seriously Bahrain was safe, some people are acting as they live in heaven without problems :p

Is the F1 Fanatic review right? Is there no news round-up between races, or even pre-season? Apart from testing.

Sounds like Buxton may have recorded some news features, but they got sacrificed.
Maybe the rest will be available in the Blu-ray version? Last year's version had features that weren't available on the DVD version such as the team radio in china, F1 in slowmotion, etc..

How many ex-F1 drivers in that list?

http://www.24hdubai.com/Entry-list-24h-Dubai-2013

I could only spot 3: Mika salo, Jean-Dénis Deletraz and Bernd Schneider.

Is that what you're working on?

Jorg Muller was a Williams TD in the 90s

There's a driver called Bonk. And a team made up of 5 drivers all called Jones, are they related?!

Add Stefan Johansson to ex-F1 drivers.
