McLaren-Mercedes | MP4-28 | Jenson and 'Checo'

Post by phil1993 » 17 Jun 2012, 19:26

A discussion relating to all things McLaren:

- Why are they making so many pit errors this season
- Will the MP4-27 come good once the tyres are sorted out
- What is going so wrong for Jenson Button?

It's been a really strange season but particularly for McLaren.

Easy, Sam Michael joined the team. :p

Button will have good races again this season but for me is not a factor in the championship. I don't think his problems are anything new, it's all about the car being exactly to his liking and him disproportionately struggling when it's not. We've seen it in the past at Honda, at Brawn and even at times at McLaren.

'McLaren set new pit stop record'

McLaren insist they have made big strides when it comes it pit stops, pointing out that one of their stops in Valencia was the "fastest stationary pit stop in motor racing history".

The Woking squad's pit crew are once again under pressure after a bungled second stop cost Lewis Hamilton the chance to challenge for the European Grand Prix race win on Sunday.

Hamilton dropped from third to sixth as he was forced to spend some extra seconds in the pit lane after the team's front wheel jack failed during his second stop.

McLaren fans have vented their anger over Twitter following the latest bungle and, according to The Telegraph, new Sporting Director Sam Michael bore the brunt of the criticism.

However, the team have been quick to point out that the pit crew were on form for most of the afternoon.

'They claim that data from the race shows that the 2008 world champion's first stop in Valencia was actually the "fastest stationary pit stop in motor racing history" at 2.6sec,' the paper said.

Adding: 'McLaren had the two fastest pit-lane times during Sunday's race - a 19.36sec for Hamilton and a 19.64sec for Jenson Button - while their average stationary pit-stop time, discounting the one which arguably cost Hamilton the chance to fight for victory, was a sprightly 2.95 seconds.

'Mercedes were the previous record holders of the fastest stationary pit stop, achieving a time similar to McLaren's 2.6secs in Korea last year. But the Woking team believe they were just quicker.'

McLaren coming out and saying this is just a joke. So you sabotage your driver in what, 3 or 4 races, and suddenly its ok because you did some super fast pitstop 4 years ago?

I believe they mean something like "when we do it properly we do it bloody fast! We even set new records"! LOL!

Now, if you have a minute to think about this...

2.6 secs????
Of course, we witness to this live or on the TV but have you ever really thought about this?
This is time to; wait for the car to completely stop, get the nut out, wait for a guy to remove wheel and wait for another guy to insert the new wheel, only then you have to insert and lock the nut again! 3 perfect timing guys and on 4 wheels! Plus the others!

They will have to start measuring it in miliseconds (just like the cars) to talk about setting new records! This is almost impossible to beat using the current measures! At least they can match the "2.6s"! 2.5 seconds is near impossible or, at least, very, very difficult to achieve, I believe!

This is ± like the 100 meters record in athletics! 9.5x seconds...

It seems that Vodafone will not renew their title sponsorship of the team after the end of the 2013 season.

I've seen a few rumours that a beverage company will step in. Now McLaren is already sponsored by Lucozade, but my impression is that it isn't them. Will try and uncover how much evidence there is to this...

What main color will they have? Still silver as a "Mercedes Silver Arrows" or change?
It seems that, after the tobacco companies, computer and technology companies, F1 is approaching drinks teams... one of these days we are talking about Red Bull vs Isostar vs Monster vs Coca-Cola cars,...

I read in Autosport magazine that Vodafone will stay with Mclaren. It's a safe deal but they'll pull out from other motorsports like V8 supercars.

I can't really imagine McLaren having both Lucozade and Coca-Cola as sponsors since they are sort of competitors.

Yeah to win 10th place in race. Big mistake Lewis, you will see sooner or later you will regret that you left.
