His last hope seems to be delivering some mega drives in these last 4 races and getting Sauber 5th in the Constructors'.

I reckon Kobayashi is better than Perez personally, and it should be him at mclaren not Sergio out of the two.

he wont get a good drive lets not beat around the bush, unless he is at Williams which isnt a possibility due to funding, or Force India, he aint on the grid. Ferrari shouldve took him for a year. Lets be honest, id rather have Karthikeyan than Massa because he couldnt do much worse.

I hope he finds a way to stay or come back in 2014!
Kosachenko said she is examining two options.

“We are working hard, there are some plans and a particular programme we have,” she said. “We have almost absolute certainty that Petrov will start in Sochi in 2014.”

She admitted the main glitch for 2013 is related to sponsorship.

“The issue of transition to another team is rather painful,” said Kosachenko. “At the moment, I have offers from two teams on my hands, but they require some solutions to be made and details settled.

“Not in the sense (of) whether there will be sponsors or not — because they are difficult, but not impossible, to find.

“The question is if those sponsors who are willing to support Vitaly will be able to coordinate with those that are already with the team,” she added.

Test driver for 2013?

Must be, which is a shame. Petrov is anonymous this year but he's done a decent job at Caterham. So which team I wonder? I doubt it'd be Williams or Sauber, while Force India also seem to have a lot of drivers. Maybe Marussia?

Just for the sake of promotion, I think it'd be awesome of Caterham gave Alexander Rossi a race in Austin. Why not?

A few people are expecting Hulkenberg to be confirmed by Sauber this weekend, as it's Kaltenborn's home race and Force India's too...

I think a decent job in an F1 seat just doesn't cut it anymore. There's an abundance of talent in the feeder series and what not, and Vitaly Petrov is nothing special to earn his seat. He's had his chance with Renault last year and he blew it. We need more Perez's and Hulkenbergs. There's 24 F1 drivers and 7 billion people in the world; if you can't prove yourself in 2 years then it's time to give someone else a go at it.

Hungarian sources seem quite sure that if Robin Frijns delivers some good results during the Young Driver Test, he'll get one of the Sauber seats for next year.
Any info on this one? I thought that Hülkenberg was a sealed deal, and I had the impression that they need Gutierrez for the Mexican sponsorship...

No, it'll be Hulkenberg/Gutierrez with Frijns as reserve.

Seems more reasonable, thanks once again!

I think Petrov is good enough for F1. He hasn't been poor at all, and has shown good races and Q results. They treated him like c**p in Renault, and at Caterham nothing really matters because there's very little to do. Both him and Heikki have done a good solid job, but it goes totally unnoticed.

I think Perez is good, but he hasn't shown 'that much' except managing to go real far on a set of tires. He's good and still deserves to be in F1, but as far as a top team, i'd say Carlos Slim has helped him quite a lot or Mclaren have seen great potential that us commoners haven't seen able to see so easily.

Hulkenberg is definitely good. If he had no seat for next yr it would be a major fluke in the "system".

I think every now and then certain guys should move on. Kovalainen maybe should...

I always think 'would I really miss them in F1? Is their talent good enough that F1 is worse without them' and few drivers have that. Kubica is one of them of course.

Oh kubica's crash was a great disappointment... I couldn't believe it when i heard the news... :(

I'd say maybe Timo Glock getting sent home rather than Heikki.. but seeing Timo has never gotten a chance to drive a really good car, then he deserves a break.

In a fair world, I would put Kobayashi in Force India with Diresta; Hulkenberg and Sutil in Sauber; and Pastor with Heikki in Williams. With 2013 being Maldonado's last chance to deliver.

A Finnish guy told me Heikki hinted in an interview that if Caterham finish 11th they might go with two pay drivers.

Which would be a real shame. The thing I respected most about Caterham (before this season at least) is despite being a small, new team they went with what they saw as the two best drivers available not a pay driver.

The problem is that they might lose a lot of money if they finish 11th in the championship. Not sure how much. You get $30m I think if you finish in the top ten in two out of three seasons, which is still valid.
