Strange. Perhaps McLaren were unhappy with it and wanted it taken down. Unfortunately for them this is the internet, and the article has been saved for all to see. :p

Nice one reppo.

Sky had already taken the quotes and posted their own story as well. :p

All this means to me is that McLaren is bluffing by showing a conservative looking MP4/27. I think we'll see almost a brand new car at the first test.

Van der Garde confirmed as Caterham's test driver. He will take part in pre-season testing & Friday practice.

Shoe-in for a few races too, surely.

Jaime Alguersuari has announced he will be absent from the formula one paddock in 2012.

After two and a half seasons and at just 21-years-old, the Spaniard has lost his Toro Rosso race seat.

And the final spot on the 2012 grid, at the Spanish team HRT, has been secured by Narain Karthikeyan.

There has been speculation Toro Rosso sponsor Cepsa was unhappy with Red Bull's decision to dump Alguersuari, but the Faenza based team announced that the Spanish oil company is staying on board for 2012.

It has also been rumoured Cepsa's Abu Dhabi links could see Alguersuari become third driver at Mercedes this year.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo said an announcement about the driver's plans is due imminently.

"You will not see me there this year but I am content with the super experience formula one has given me for my life," Alguersuari wrote in Spanish and Castilian Spanish on his Twitter page.

"Thank you all very much for your support," he added.

I got a press release from Caterham this morning and - as everyone knows - Heikki will get 2 days of testing this week, with the remaining days split between Giedo and Jarno. Interesting...

Tyre tactics in Formula 1 will increase

10.02.2012 16:49

Formula One tyre supplier Pirelli has deliberately reduced lap time differences between various rubber compounds , which in the coming season will range from 0.6 to 0.8 seconds.

Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery emphasizes that the chance will be significat from the point of view of tyre tactics.

- Last year we saw the lap time difference of 1.5 seconds between compounds, which meant that the use of a hard tyre did not have any benefit, even if there was one pit stop less, Hembery says.

Pirelli hopes teams to have different tyre tactics.

- Now the team can make one pit stop visit less and stay longer on the track with medium or hard tyres, whereas last season everybody would have taken maximum performance out of soft tyres, when harder tyre could not compensate 1.5 seconds lap difference with better endurance, Hembery says.

No separate qualifying tyres

Last season tyre tactics were seen particularly in qualifying, when the drivers did not drive all possible laps, to save their tyres for the race, because the same set of tyres must last for both qualifying and the race. Pirelli would be happy to bring qualifying tyres to Formula One, but the teams have not asked for it, so the tyre rule will remain unchanged.

- It would be fun if there was specific time trial tyres. It would give us a subject for conversation. We are involved in the sport in order to promote our brand and to get people to discuss about tyres. We would be happy to do something, if we are asked, Hembery said to MTV3 about qualifying tyre situation.

Using tyres differently on qualifying is one interesting tactical element.

- Last year, the teams had a lot of tactics by not running laps. It probably had some impact on the final results of competition, so it is part of tactical intrigue. Of course, if we end up to a situation where there is only two cars on the track in third part of qualifying, we have gone too far, Hembery considers.
