Getting a driver to sign a birthday card?

Post by KevC » 30 Jun 2010, 09:09

So I have a Polish friend who loves F1 and follows Kubica.

What do you think my chances would be if I sent a birthday card to Renault F1 HQ with a stamped addressed envelope asking if he could sign it?

I've got a book called 'Formula One for dummies' and it says they accept these things but it could take very long before they answer. If your friend's birthday is in a few days it's too late. But maybe send a birthday card for next year. :D

EDIT : I knew icy uploaded the book here some time ago. Maybe this can help :

Getting autographs long distance (From : Formula One Racing For Dummies page 250)
Spoiler:
If you fancy getting a photograph or piece of merchandise signed, and you
can’t make it to a race, try writing to a team and asking them to get the autograph
for you. When drivers visit the team’s factories during the season, they
are often asked to spend some time signing items sent to the factory. And you
never know – that could include something you’ve sent. If you follow this
route, keep the following in mind:

► Make sure that you always enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope
so that the team can send the item back to you. Without an SASE, there’s
no guarantee that you’ll get your stuff back.
► Don’t expect an immediate reply. You could wait up to six months for a
response for a team, such is the demand for getting items signed, so
make sure what you send off is something that you won’t miss.

Keep an eye out on Web sites for special appearances by drivers and
other team personnel at locations near you. Sponsors are only too keen
to show off drivers to the fans, and you may find that Kimi Raikkonen, for
example, will be stopping off for a quick chat with fans just around the
corner from you.

Getting autographs from an F1 driver is probably one of the hardest things to get these days. They seem so caught up with everything else, can't blame them. No harm in trying, but fan mail takes ages to go through.

By the way, if anyone is interested, nothing has come back yet. I might get lucky after the season ends.

Good things come to those who wait :)

At the 11th hour the card was changed to a leaving one as I found out the person was going to be moving on in 2011.
