I think you got a good point - let's see who is the 'chosen one'

I hardly think so. There is already one paid driver in another seat. Renault must find a decent driver in order to chase points to guarantee F~0~M money at the end of season. Besides, Genii Capital is trying to use F1 as a platform for future business. So, success is vital. That would be ridiculous if they choose that way but I don't see it happening.

The most convenient choice would be Hülkenberg. Raikkonen has already been tied with his newly-found team, but I don't know there are caluses which enable Raikkonen to terminate WRC entry and go for it. Then, Raikkonen would be perfect for not only Renault, but whole F1 community. Today, Maurice Hamilton tweeted that his "Well-informed rally mates tell me Renault have been talking to Kimi's management team." Who knows.

Anthony Davidson told he has already committed to Audi, so it's not an option. Liuzzi, Fisichella and Heidfeld are other logical candidates for the seat.

I say that if money and success is what they want, the only logical choice is Raikkonen.
If they just want to score points, go for Hülkenberg or Fisichella.

But why hire 5 reserve drivers and then not use them for the exact situation they were hired for?
Anthony Davidson has reportedly ruled himself out of contention to replace injured Robert Kubica in 2011.

The 31-year-old Briton was a well-respected Honda test driver who raced full-time for Super Aguri in 2007 and 2008.

He has recently been working with Mercedes GP in the Brackley based team's simulator, but his main job is with Peugeot's Le Mans team, and he has re-committed for this year.

According to Mirror correspondent Byron Young on Twitter, Davidson said Kubica's replacement this year has "big shoes to fill and must be a title contender".

Young said Davidson had therefore ruled "himself out of (contention for the) Renault Lotus drive having signed Peugeot Le Mans deal".

Meanwhile, Observer correspondent and BBC radio commentator Maurice Hamilton revealed on Tuesday that "well-informed rally mates tell me Renault have been talking to Kimi (Raikkonen)'s management team".

"They ought to talk to Ant Davidson," he added.

I like Antony Davidson and think that he could archive more in F1. BUT - did anyone actually mentioned his name when talkling about possible substitute?
Those five 'thrid drivers', Kimi, Hulk and Caveman were mentioned, but I don't recall ANY ONE mentioning Antony. Why would one 'rull himself out', if no one really thought about one? It's a bit low, at least in my opinion

whoever they decide upon, they need to get him into the car for this test itself. No use, doing just before season starts anf then the driver will be too slow

I'd say Heidfeld is most likely, he's a known quantity and consistent. However, Senna would be a gamble, and one that could either pay off, or fail spectactularly. Liuzzi would also be an option if they want a known quantity that is consistent, but I for one feel as though he'd be not as good as Heidfeld.
