HRT is reportedly close to finalising an agreement with Toyota’s former Cologne based formula one team.

Italy’s 422race.com said the struggling Spanish outfit will sign the deal “in the next few days” after a long period of negotiation.

The team’s current car, the slowest in the 2010 field, was built by its former partner Dallara.

The website said the HRT deal will involve use of Toyota Motorsport’s Cologne headquarters, staff and designs of the unraced 2010 car, the TF110.

Before the money arrives from Spain, Toyota is reportedly rehiring engineers including by publishing announcements in specialist magazines.

HRT team owner confirms likely Toyota deal
Quote:
HRT owner Jose Ramon Carabante has confirmed that the struggling Spanish team is set to collaborate with Toyota.

Team boss Colin Kolles admitted at Hockenheim that working with Toyota Motorsport, the Japanese marque's former F1 arm based in Cologne, is a "good option" for Hispania.

Driver Bruno Senna, however, indicated that agreements are not yet signed.

But reports suggest HRT, whose partnership with 2010 car builder Dallara has been terminated, will use Toyota's headquarters and wind tunnel, staff and the designs of its unraced TF110 car.

Carabante has now confirmed the deal by playing down fears in Spain that HRT will no longer be based in Murcia, the autonomous region that is also a sponsor of the team.

In a report by the Spanish news agency EFE, Carabante said that notwithstanding the arrangement with Toyota, the team will remain in Murcia "because the project was born here".

The report said the deal is worth EUR15 million, with Carabante insisting it "will strengthen Hispania in the battle to be the best of the new teams, which is our first goal".

EFE said HRT's technical contract with Toyota Motorsport will be for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Hispania are definitely struggling at the moment. I'd like to see them succeed in future, and a deal with Toyota will certainly help them achieve that.

Frankly I don't see how ripping off a year old car will help them, particularly when they can't afford to test or develop the car. I doubt many staff will move to Spain to work for an uncompetitive team that probably doesn't pay well, I don't see how this makes much difference to their competitiveness. I don't see them being in F1 next year at all actually.

Ugh, not Bahrain as opener again? It's one of the dullest tracks on the calendar and should be hidden away around Round 4 like it was in 2009.

Yeah, pleaseeeee Melbourne! Melbourne rocks! It really should be the season opener. Bahrein doesn't deserve that, just like Brazil needs to be the big final. Not Abu Money :<>:

c**p calendar. Bahrain to start, Abu Dhabi to end. Korea round 5? I suppose all these new circuits that have a late season date have to be shifted earlier. Whats with the 3 week gap from Canada to Britain? Can we have some old circuits back? :p

Nick Heidfeld says he is satisfied with talks he has held with teams over a 2011 seat but opportunities are limited.

Ie, he's probably off to Sauber in place of De La Rosa
