Report from Polish website that Kubica's father said Robert's injuries 'look ugly' but not life threatening.
Re: 2011 Formula 1 Season - Official Discussion Thread
Well. What to make of all this.
First of all, I sincerely hope the more recent reports suggesting he's not critically injured are accurate. And in any case, I wish him a speedy and full recovery.
Secondly, there seems to be little doubt at this stage that he will miss one or several races. I imagine that legions of managers and possibly drivers have already given Eric Boullier a call to offer him their services. This is a saddening but inevitable aspect of motorsport.
Thirdly, what will Boullier do? He had indeed said that Senna would be first to step up in case of need, but had he envisioned such a scenario? The team's lead driver missing the start of the season and possibly more than that? Surely neither Petrov nor Senna are experienced enough to lead such a high-profile team as Renault, even temporarily. Grosjean, Fauzy and Tung certainly aren't either. If Robert has to miss more than a couple races, Renault will be needing someone of his caliber to take up his seat. Heidfeld does seem to be the best package, he's pretty much the only experienced driver who raced in 2010 and is available; second-rate choices could be Liuzzi or even de la Rosa, but I don't see that happening.

Damn!!!! Why him???
Re: 2011 Formula 1 Season - Official Discussion Thread
Stupid by both, Kubica and Renault.
First of all, I'm quite shoced to hear this and wish him all the best!
Now, how stupid can you be Robert Kubica? Why taking part in a c**p Rallye event, when you're a Formula 1 driver in the middle of winter testing? If he needs a kick he should try a parachute drop or something...especially after he survived Montreal 2007 with so little damage, he really should have learned from that and focus on his job which is F1 and don't do other motorsports events in his freetime.
And then Lotus-Renault...who on earth is so stupid on that team to allow their main driver to take part in a Rallye event right between the winter testing sessions? How stupid can you be...

Robert Kubica is not in danger, says his manager Stephane Samson. The Pole crashed yesterday during a rally event in Italy at full speed against a church building and suffered serious injuries. Although he would be out of mortal danger doctors still consider to amputate his hand.
"According to my information IS, Robert is not in danger, " said Samson. "He has at least severe injuries to his left hand and left leg. The precise nature of the injuries I know nothing else.
Meanwhile Michael Schumacher has also responded to the first news about Kubica. The German was a guest this weekend at the ISPO in Munich. "Schumacher has shocked and reacted with dismay to the message. He would not comment further, because we certainly know nothing, "he told his manager Sabine Kehm know.

It says his arm was amputated...
Maybe all the speculative reporting should be stopped until we actually have an official statement.
