How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
Okay, lets kick this off and run in throughout the year when F1 gets to one of the stereotypically boring tracks, like Catalunya. How would you improve the chances of overtaking?

Reprofiled first and last sections.
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
My idea was a hairpin first turn, leading into a second turn which means drivers will be compromised for Turn 3 and leaving an opportunity to Turn 4. Keep S2 because its quite good but change S3 drastically, allowing for overtaking chances
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
If you combine the two figures above, from your suggestions, you get something like Bahrain. Phill1993's suggestion for turn one looks like turn one at Barhain, so does the las section suggested bu cformula1. I think your suggestions are good, some slower parts and long straights. Some tracks are boring, no doubt about it. Like Valencia and Barcelona too. But I think the main problem is the car. It depends too much on aerodynamic grip. One rain shower brings spectacle. Taking a bundle of grip away and you get some racing. But, having said that, it's true that the nature of the circuit helps as well. Barcelona, Valencia, Bahrain and Abu Dahbi can disapear right out of the window, if I had to say it ;)
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
I have a couple of different variations:
Variation 1:
- Have a long, full throttle right-hander, into a Monza style turn 1 chicane.
- Modify 3rd sector by putting in a hairpin, and another chicane
Variation 2:
- Leave sector 1 the same
- Change sector 2 to include a tight left hander after a long full throttle section
- Change sector 3 to include a hairpin, and two 90 degree turns

Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
First change should help in overtaking into first sequence of corners (especially in first lap)
Second change is a kind of chicane followed by a sharp turn, which is something diff, but should help as a person trying to be maximum in the chicane could overshoot the turn IMO. No harm in trying it atleast
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
Here's what I'd do to Valencia. Change the first sweeping bend into a kink which kicks off a really fast S1 with a hairpin for overtaking chance. Tight turn onto the bridge but don't have the kink right after the bridge, extend the straight to make the run onto the first back straight longer, a bit like Hockenheim. Then leave the rest of the track as it is.
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
here is mine with barcelona, first turn like bahrain and then followed by many high speed straights and chicanes with some tight hairpins, something like monza or canada, and agree with u phill about valencia, sector 1 very fast with hairpin, while last part stays like it is
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
I would also change Abu Dhabi by cutting out the chicane at Turn 4 and making Turn 8/9 not off camber.
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
Valencia is not only boring, because of the lay-out, but it lacks atmoshpere. The track runs along a cargo port and store houses. From the track, the only thing you see are grey, concrete walls. Just one grey mass.

*Bump - for obvious reasons*
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
Speaking of boring circuits, next weekend, Valencia! I watch every race, so I'm not going to miss this one, but I don't expect anything special, to be honest.

Here's what I'd do to Catalunya using most of the track that is already there. Much more simplistic with 2 long and fast straights.

Valencia is a concrete jungle, just horribly fake, artificial and fraudulent both on and off the track. The track is ugly and the Monaco rip-off harbour they're building is also horrible, just ghastly to look at. Valencia is beyong needing improvement, it needs to be binned as a F1 venue.
Re: How would you improve some of F1's boring circuits?
You're right. It has nothing of the aspects of Monaco or Montreal. It runs between industrial stockhouses and sea containers. From onboard, the only thing you see is grey concrete and tarmac. I don't understand why they build this track in the first place. There is a nice racetrack just outside the city.swca92 wrote:Valencia is a concrete jungle, just horribly fake, artificial and fraudulent both on and off the track.
