Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
After 12 years of ITV broadcasting, Formula 1 returned to BBC with an astonishing £200m deal for 5 years, as you all know.
James Allen was ITV's main commentator since 2001 US Grand Prix until the very last race of 2008. He commentated 129 races throughout his career on ITV. Then in 2009, BBC gave the main commentator role to Jonathan Legard, who till that time was a motor sport correspondent in BBC Radio 5 Live. Both of them had Martin Brundle with them as a pundit.
Who do you rate highly as a main commentator?
Is it "Thank you Steve, hello everybody" James Allen or "From Brawn From Brawn From Red Bull From Red Bull" Jonathan Legard?

Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
They are both s***e tbh. Allen is a good journalist though. Legard is just boring.
Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
I never thought I'd say this, but Allen. Legard is just repetitive and does not gel with the great Martin Brundle, Legard has nothing to say except how great Button is. Allen was better, you could understand him and he let Brundle speak

Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
Bring back James Allen, Legard is rubbish. Atleast Allen and Brundle worked well as a team, Legard just doesn't know when to hand over to Brundle, and gets excited about small things will going quiet when something exciting happens. He has a habit of building something up, then saying what happened quietly. Allen had his faults but they were mainly to do with bias and not actual commentating. Legard is both biased towards Button and a c**p commentator.

yeahagree with the guys, allen was biased but he was good but leagrd is just awful. becuase of him i always listen to radio 5 live commentary during the races.
Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
James Allen's bias and Lewis-centric commentating might have been due to ITV's policy. He doesn't seem to be as biased in his columns as in his commentating days. When he became free agent, I think he also became a neutral journalist. If he's brought back, he would have to behave based on, if any, BBC's policy -let's say- inclined to recent-famous-British driver Button.
I really enjoy reading him. For that I prefer him writing, instead of commentating. Legard, on the other hand, does contribute nothing to the race. Ted Kravits can do a better job with his insight on what's happening on and off track. I'd prefer to see him as a main commentator.

the classic comment of Ledgard "he's come out of the pits behind Veitell. So Vietell will be in front of him now"

Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
I don't know about his Lewis-centric commentating as I didn't watch F1 on that channel, but on his website and twitter he's not very Lewis-centric, so it really looks like ITV's way of broadcasting and commentating.Ali wrote:James Allen's bias and Lewis-centric commentating might have been due to ITV's policy. Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne, Michael Schumacher = DREAM TEAM
Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
The poll is currently James Allen 8;Jonathan Legard 0. That says it all really.

Re: Jonathan Legard vs. James Allen
I'm not a great fan of James Allen because of his biased commentary about Hamilton, but at least HE WAS NOT BORING LIKE LEGARD. In my point of view, Martin Brundle seems to be more boring with Legard so......

I prefer Allen, Legard is all Button and Brawn. Haven't heard Brundle's voice all that much, Legard is like my 8yo cousin.
