Press Release
F1 Commission
10/12/2009
The FIA today hosted the first meeting of the F1 Commission in its new structure since the signing of the 2009 Concorde Agreement. Chaired by Commission President Bernie Ecclestone and with FIA President Jean Todt in attendance, the F1 Commission is made up of key championship stakeholders from F1 teams, promoters, suppliers and sponsors.
The F1 Commission agreed that the Brawn team will be allowed to change its chassis name from Brawn to Mercedes. The team will continue to receive payments based on its historical performance. This has been granted on a one-off exceptional basis due to Mercedes-Benz’s long-term involvement and commitment to Formula One.
The F1 Commission also proposed a number of amendments to the sporting and technical regulations, which will be put to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for final approval tomorrow morning. They include:
- Due to the expanded grid of 13 teams, a new points system for the 2010 season:
1st 25
2nd 20
3rd 15
4th 10
5th 8
6th 6
7th 5
8th 3
9th 2
10th 1
- A strong mandate has been given to the Sporting Working Group, a sub-committee of the F1 Commission made up of the FIA and F1 teams, to develop detailed proposals to improve the show. These will take effect from the 2010 championship.
- The FIA and F~0~M will further collaborate to enhance the communication and promotion of the championship to the media and its worldwide fanbase.
The next meeting of the Formula One Commission will be held on 10 March in Bahrain.

I just can't read this anymore.....they are supposed to improve the sport and not the show. Such a "briatorish" phrase
Re: 2010 Season Discussions: Driver Line-ups, News and Misc
I reckon this would be better:
1st: 20 points
2nd: 14 points
3rd: 10 points
4th: 8 points
5th: 6 points
6th: 5 points
7th: 4 points
8th: 3 points
9th: 2 points
10th: 1 point
Because the gap of 5 points between 1st and 2nd would be just the same as 2003-9!
Work it out!
10 - 8 = 2, okay. Stay with me here. 1st will get 25 points, 2nd will get 20 points. Both have increased by a factor of 2.5, so there will be little difference in terms of fighting for the win or settling for 2nd
Note: Only those who can do Maths will understand the above. I'm not sure if I understand it myself.

How the 2009 season would look with the potential new points system
Button 230.5
Vettel 203
Barrichello 183
Webber 178
Hamilton 123
Raikkonen 119
PS. I've only worked it out for the Top 6, but it hasn't changed much has it The win has been increased by 10 to 25, so lets say that the gap between drivers should be multiplied by 2.5.
Button to Vettel was 11 points, multiply this by 2.5 and you get 27.5. As if by magic, this is the same gap as the new points system would have implemented.

Re: F1 set for points system changes
What a stupid idea this is, there's in reality no difference in the points gap between 1st and 2nd and we now get so many points thrown around that it gives people a headache working out, points become too easy to get and people only need about 25 wins to break the points scoring records.
PS That was the first meeting of the F1 commission for 5 years...shows how Max dominated the sport doesn't it???

Re: F1 set for points system changes
seems like it will be like in motogp or something...
but i dont like it because the records will the be easy to brake, schumi has scored 148 points max in f1 season, and total 1369 points in carrer, but with a win 25 points handed now its bad, cuz one drivers wins 5-6 times and he has over 200pts already and breaks the record... so stupid, i mean the previous records will be broken imadeatly... schumis superb records will be down..., i mean in the 80 or 90 there also were 26 cars and there only first 6 cars took the points... but 25 its way too much.... 10 is max 4 winner of race
i would let it as it is 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, i mean give points 4 10th is stupid u must fight 4 it , and i mean 8th or even 6th witch is hard to get there, and not just drive around others will crash... and i will get 10 points so stupid...

Re: F1 set for points system changes
It's not a great Idea, I'd much prefer a
12 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 1
Or something like that. I guess it's something we will just have to get use too, Schumacher's and Prost's records will be broke, but I guess in 15 years time we will have people trying to beat Vettel's 250 points.

Re: F1 set for points system changes
yes something like coopz wrote 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, but 25 is total bull, 12 max, but i would let it as it is, like i said before there were 26 cars before and only the first 6-8 cars have scored points, its not about the points, it

Re: F1 Points System Changed
I am excited that the points system has been extended to include the top ten drivers as it will give us more battles to watch on the track as they fight for the places, I especially like the 25 points for 1st versus 20 for 2nd, the difference of 5 points will hopefully spur on the 2nd place driver to go for the top spot. In the past there have been 26 drivers (I'm thinking early 1990s) and then there were only 6 points places, you never heard about drivers further down the field.
