Best F1 Rookie?

Post by phil1993 » 24 Oct 2009, 18:57

Just to see who everyone thinks was the best F1 rookie, in their first year in F1. If a driver started mid-season, then it is their first full season that counts, in the interest of fairness - its difficult to find the best 'rookies' as many competed in 4 - 5 races before a full campaign the next year

Also, please:

Base this on their rookie year (and a half in some cases)
Base this on their impact in the sport
NO FANBOYISM please! Try and make this a fair poll, not just 'I dont like them so I'll vote for..

At least try... you would be shocked at the MOTY 2008 results from some users, I was... people who say they hate Hamilton voted for him in some of the categories :O and the same with other drivers... I hope MOTY2009 will be as fair

I can't remember much of them, but Hamilton broke nearly every recond and beated a World Champion, so to me it's clear..

I voted Vettel because he has made some very great performance in a normal car, contrary to Hamilton or Villeneuve who were in very superior car.

True... Although Hamilton IMO was better than Villeneuve because although the MP4/22 was the best 2007 car, it was nothing like how good the 1996 Williams was - nearly anyone could have done the same job in that car. Schumi would have won all the races :O

Yeah, Montoya should be in the pole aswell, although Kimi was not that impressive in his Sauber, compared to Vettel in his STR

Nino Fanina, first year, champion ;)

No, I think it's really Villeneuve. All the other drivers from America haven't been good in F1 except Monty. He nearly won the championship and won it '98.

Ayrton Senna made impressive races with a Toleman

Michael Schumacher was impressive at Spa with the Jordan

No need to point their impact on the sport....it`s obvious.

All the others are ok, but most of them like Hamilton or Villeneuve started at top teams with fast cars, having already hundreds of milles of winter testing.

Montoya was having a impact in the sport : He was a "character" of the paddock, he took many risk (his move on Schumacher in Brazil 01, on Trulli in Imola 01, ...) and he was the only to really fight against M. Schumacher (A1 Ring 01, Silverstone 02, Australia 02, Malaysia 02,...)

Impact on the sport doesn't matter at all, which is why I vote for Giancarlo Baghetti, who not only won his first race, but also won his first three races if you include non-championship races, which is to me rather impressive for someone who only got the seat because he was Italian and hadn't even shown great form in lower formulae.
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.
