Heidfeld followed by Martin Brundle.

Two drivers in the running for me. Alex Zanardi and Seb Bourdais. Zanardi for me because he was such an skilled driver and improved so much in the States, but was stuck with poor and unfair placing in the Williams team which killed his F1 career.

I think Sebastian Bourdais. He is a multiple champcar champion, but in F1 he didn't get the job done. I really believe he is a good and fast driver, otherwise he wouldn't be champion. In F1 he looked like a rookie always slower than Vettel. Having said that, are there drivers who would not be slower than Vettel in the same car? :D But anyway, I think Bourdais is underrated in F1 and I think he deserves another chance.

Agreed. I was so disappointed when they sacked Bourdais. I watched him on and off in the Champ Car series and every time I turned a race on, he was winning. Give him even a mid-field car in F1 and he'd be a consistent points scorer.

Salo at least had a more substantive career than Wendlinger...and arguably won in Germany when he was subbing for Schumacher in 1999. Heidfeld, to me, has never really been close enough to count-I don't remember (though I could be wrong!) him leading a number of races, or being on the verge of winning.
