I'm glad to see Sauber was granted the final grid spot, but I am curious to see there funding for 2010. Whatever it was, it must have convinced the FIA to give them the 13th and last grid slot.

Prodrive seem to be in the running for purchasing a stake in Renault, but the rivalry is growing: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80434

BBC gossip column

Quote:
Renault is at the centre of rival bids to take control of its Formula 1 team, as David Richards' Prodrive operation faces opposition from Luxembourg investment fund Genii Capital.

Renault remains quiet about the executive committee meeting yesterday during which the future of the company in Formula 1 was one of the subjects under discussion. According to the latest sources in France the company has been looking for an exit strategy which will allow the company to leave without breaking the Concorde Agreement.

Renault looks almost certain to sell a controlling stake in its Formula 1 team to David Richards, the owner of Prodrive and chairman of Aston Martin. He plans to run the outfit from its existing factory in Oxfordshire and continue to race them under the Renault banner.

Despite the ongoing rumours that Michael Schumacher is off to Mercedes GP next season, his manager Willi Weber says he "cannot imagine" it.

Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve looks set to return to Formula 1 - with the new Lotus team expected to announce their line-up next week.

Ross Brawn has admitted disappointment with Jenson Button's decision to switch to McLaren, but insists the move has nothing to do with money.

Daniel Ricciardo ended Formula 1's young driver test at Jerez in scintillating form as the Red Bull driver recorded the fastest time of the week to sit on top of the timesheets.

Williams' co-owner Patrick Head believes Formula Two champion Andy Soucek has a future in Formula 1 following this week's test in Jerez.

Portugal's Alvaro Parente is being tipped to beat both Vitaly Petrov and Pastor Maldonado to partner Bruno Senna at Campos Meta in 2010.

If Renault would be taken over by that Gravity Management, that would explain why Ho Pin Tung tested for renault last week. He is managed by Gravity ... So if renault would be taken over by Gravity, Ho Pin Tung could get a spot there.

Gravity also manages d'Ambrosio & Vietoris and some Euroseries and FBMW drivers

The name Renault should stay until 2012. d'Ambrosio to renault. Oh boy, what a dream what a dream ...

Fisichella admits 2010 Suaber seat possible
Fisichella linked with Sauber
Spoiler:
Giancarlo Fisichella has admitted that a race seat at Sauber next year is a possibility.

After a more than thirteen-year career in Formula One and 231 grands prix, the 36-year-old Roman has been signed to be Ferrari's reserve driver in 2010.

But his contract leaves the door open for a parallel race seat, and because of Sauber's deal to race a Ferrari engine and powertrain next year, Fisichella has been mentioned for a role.

After two mostly disappointing seasons with Jordan in 2002 and 2003, Fisichella switched to Hinwil-based Sauber in 2004 and thereafter launched his career's most successful tenure with a subsequent move to Renault.

"First of all I'm happy that they (Sauber) can participate in the championship and I would like to be able to collaborate with a team I know, and I got on very well with them: together with Ferrari we'll see if that will be possible," he said at the Bologna motor show.

Silverstone secures British GP from 2010
Spoiler:
The British Grand Prix will stay at the Silverstone circuit next year after the Northamptonshire track reached a deal with Bernie Ecclestone after weeks of negotiations.

Silverstone looked set to lose the race last year when Ecclestone signed a 17-year deal with Donington Park to host the grand prix from next season.

However, Donington failed to raise the funds to carry out a redevelopment project and so Ecclestone began talks with Silverstone.

The British Racing Drivers' Club, owners of the tack, confirmed on Monday morning they had secured a 17-year agreement to host the British Grand Prix from 2010.

The circuit will also host a MotoGP race next year.

"The title of Silverstone as home of motorsport has come true," said BRDC president Damon Hill. "It is a place for all motorsport. Everyone in the BRDC loves motorsport and we are looking forward to the MotoGP as well as the British Grand Prix.

"It is not easy to enter into a contract of this magnitude and you have to take on a lot of responsibility, but the BRDC wanted this relationship to continue.

"Everyone was well aware that the British GP is not just a sporting event, but it is dynamo of the industry in this country. Losing it would have been damaging and perhaps there would have been no coming back."

Hill said the new pit and paddock work will begin after Christmas and it is hoped it will be finished for the 2011 race.

Silverstone's managing director Richard Phillips said the circuit will work hard to given the fans better value for their money.

"Even this year with the new circuit we are trying to get better access for public, changing granstands for better viewing and running our own campsites to be better than the current ones," he said.

"We want to increase the entertainment factor."

He said the new contract has a clause to break the deal in 10 years' time as a safety net.

"There is a mutual opportunity to break it is not what we want to do," he said. "It is a good safety thing to have."

Phillips said Silverstone is looking at using the new 'Arena' circuit for F1 next year.

"The FIA have been to see it, it has been submitted for homologation and we hope to be running on the 'arena' circuit next summer. If not we can run on the current circuit."
