First Cosworth engines ready to go
Cosworth is powering ahead with its return to Formula One announcing that the first batch of engines are ready to ship to its customers.
The engine supplier, which is based in Northampton, has reported that the first batch of CS2010 engines were completed before Christmas and are now on their way to its teams, Williams, Campos, Lotus, US F1 and Virgin Racing, in time for the teams to take part in the first test of the year in Valencia on February 1.
"We're looking forward to seeing them all on track next month since there is still a lot of work to do before the season starts," Cosworth general manager Mark Gallagher said. "After the very busy summer and autumn months when we were putting our program together it has been very rewarding to see the first engines ready for action thanks to the hard work of everyone here at Cosworth and our suppliers."
Although Williams has announced its intentions to run at the first test with Rubens Barrichello at the wheel, Lotus will not hit the track until later in the month. Despite serious financial doubts being raised over the Campos team, it has announced its first car will be ready to run on February 1.
US F1 announced earlier this week that it had been granted dispensation by the FIA to test outside Europe, at the Barber Motorsport Park in Alabama, but team boss Peter Windsor refused to be more specific on timings than saying the inaugural running would be "at the beginning of February".
Richard Branson's Virgin Racing team has yet to announce its intentions, as far as testing is concerned.
A Cosworth engine last powered an F1 car in 2006, but the manufacturer has an impressive history in the sport spanning from 1967. Its statistics include 10 constructors' championships and 13 drivers' titles; as well as powering every winning car in the 1969 and 1973 seasons.

Sato In Running For Renault Seat
Takuma Sato is now a leading candidate to be Robert Kubica's Renault teammate in 2010, according to Auto Hebdo.
The French publication said the Japanese veteran, who will turn 33 later this month, is effectively vying for the seat with Nick Heidfeld.
New team boss Eric Boullier is believed to have compiled a shortlist featuring three other names, including the Gravity Sport-managed Ho-Pin Tung and Jerome d'Ambrosio, and the Frenchman Romain Grosjean.
Prior to the signing of Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, Sato-who completed the last of his 93 Grands Prix prior to Super Aguri's collapse in mid-2008 - was also linked with the new Lotus team.
"We haven't given up," his agent Matthew Winter said last month. "There are still a few seats open and we are trying to hunt them down.
"His options are running out so we don't know if he is going to be in F1 next year."

Nakajima Linked With Campos, Stefan Solution
Although not a player in the 'silly season' until now, Kazuki Nakajima may extend his Formula One career into a third full season in 2010.
Finland's Turun Sanomat reports that the Japanese, who turned 25 Monday, could be a beneficiary of the new Spanish team Campos' apparent difficulties.
It was reported last week that the team is struggling to raise its budget for the 2010 season and pay its bills to chassis partner Dallara.
The South African businessman Tony Teixeira was touted as one potential buyer, but Turun Sanomat believes F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone favors another solution.
Stefan GP, a Serbianoutfit looking to race in 2010, has done a deal with departed F1 team Toyota to take over its TF110 car, gearbox and engine.
Also part of Stefan's Toyota package may be Nakajima, who with Toyota's backing contested 36 Grands Prix at Williams between late 2007 and last season.
Campos has already signed Brazilian rookie Bruno Senna for the 2010 season.

Thank god we're shot of him, his driving and his arrogance. A year too late in my opinion.

Booth replaces Tai at Virgin
Virgin Racing has undertaken a management reshuffle, with John Booth taking over from Alex Tai as its team principal with immediate effect.

Less than one month after Tai was revealed as the team boss of the new outfit at its official launch in London, Virgin Racing revealed on Tuesday that he was moving on to fresh projects.

He will be replaced with the highly-respected Booth, who originally headed the operation when it was operating as Manor Grand Prix and was previously sporting director at Virgin

Speaking about the reasons for his decision, Tai explained: "Finding new opportunities and the challenge of starting new ventures is where my focus and interest lies.

"I am proud that we have taken the team from concept to reality in a short period of time and I am confident that Virgin Racing will be in trusted and experienced hands."

Virgin Racing's chairman Etienne de Villiers said: "John’s impressive racing pedigree and reputation is beyond question in the critical role of team principal.

"John will be joined by Graeme Lowdon as CEO who previously held the position of Director of Racing. He was one of the founders of the original Manor Grand Prix team and a key architect of its successful formation last year.

"Graeme has a proven track record with Manor Grand Prix and is a formidable operator with an excellent reputation in the sport. Their combined experience and expertise make them the ideal candidates to lead the Virgin Racing team as we head into an exciting first season."

He added: "These appointments reflect our long-term commitment to fully addressing the complexity and challenges of the new business and to creating a team with the appropriate skills and experience to ensure its sustainable success.

"We knew this day was coming but we are still sorry to see Alex move on from his executive duties. He will continue in his role as Director of Special Projects for Virgin and will retain a close relationship with the team. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Alex for his support, energy and commitment from the outset and we look forward to his continued contribution to the business."

Virgin Racing has signed Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock for its debut campaign, with its car expected to hit the track for the first time at the second official pre-season test.
