Honda: Team may still have to be disbanded
Friday 20th February 2009
Despite reports of a proposed bid for the Honda Racing team by Richard Branson, the big bosses in Japan have warned that the team could yet to be disbanded.
Honda are currently negotiating the sale of their F1 team with two known parties, Branson's Virgin Group and the existing Honda Racing management led by CEO Nick Fry and team boss Ross Brawn.
However, with the previous deadline of January 31st having already passed, time is fast running out for the F1 team.
Reports claims that a new deadline of 1st March has now been set and, should Honda fail to find a buyer before then, the company's bosses have warned that the team will be disbanded.
Honda spokesman Hiroyuki Murase told The Associated Press: "It's true that we are pursuing several potential buyers.
"But the team may still have to be disbanded if the negotiations fail."
Should that happen it would leave over 700 staff members, including F1 driver Jenson Button, unemployed.

Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
a few Virgin quotes:
"Interested in F1"
"It's gotta be clear that Bernie is the boss"
"F1 has got to become green"
These were some quotes he told BBC (radio). He said the F1 has got to make some chance, before he's ready for this adventure...

BBC TV actually Joost I watched the interview this morning live on TV. He seemed not to answer questions on it as he suggested they were in talks with Honda but weren't allowed to comment.
Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
Atleast its confirmation that Virgin are serious about buying Honda, and Branson would fit in F1 with his money, contacts and his history of success in various pursuits.

Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
If they're testing, and have an engine deal it would mean we're almost certain to see them on the fird next year.According to the BBC Brawn and Fry have all but done a deal to buy the team. But I'm not convinced,we were told yesterday there were no serious buyers and all the speculation about Virgin or that telecommunications millionaire buying the team has been mostly false.Until they're testing I'm not at all convinced they'll be in F1 in 2009.

“Team members have been told a deal is close and they should prepare to race in 2009.”
according to a Finnish newspaper, Fry is out and David Richards is in.

Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
It's quite exciting news. I hope it will be revealed as soon as possible. I really want to see Ross in the paddock. That would be great however to include Michael into the team. A semi-dream team would be established.iceman1 wrote:“Team members have been told a deal is close and they should prepare to race in 2009.”

Highly unlikely though, isn't it.
Edit: Oh my gush, or is it?

Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
I'd love to see Brawn and Schumi run a team together with someone who can control the business side of things, that would be an awesome team. But I doubt we'll see that, and Schumi wouldn't accept Honda. He's only 2 years into his retirement,he's got a lot of things to do before the F1 bug bites him again.

Re: For crisis, Honda leaves F1
plus he is still under contract from Ferrari so he has no reason to go to Honda... plus he needs some free time to race on two wheels...lol
