WRC ace Loeb gets Red Bull F1 test

World Rally Championship superstar Sebastien Loeb will test Red Bull's Formula 1 car later this month as a gift to celebrate his record-breaking fifth title.

Loeb has dominated the WRC in recent years, clinching his fifth successive championship in Japan last weekend.

Now Red Bull, which became a major sponsor of Loeb's Citroen team earlier this year, is rewarding the Frenchman with an F1 test.

Loeb will get a brief run at Silverstone before participating in the first official winter test at Catalunya on 17th November.

It will be his second F1 test after an outing with Renault at Paul Ricard last year, but on that occasion he had the circuit to himself.

"I’m absolutely delighted by this present from Red Bull to celebrate my fifth World Rally Championship title," said Loeb.

"I already got the chance to test a Formula 1 car last year, but this time the circumstances will be a little different.

"I’m now going to find myself in the midst of all the regular F1 drivers during an official test.

"I just hope that I don’t make a fool of myself!

"On the other hand, it’s only for one day."

He emphasised that the test was purely for fun and that he had no F1 ambitions.

"I’d like to clear up any speculation about me possibly switching to F1... next year I’m definitely going to be driving a Citroen C4 WRC in the World Rally Championship," Loeb said.

Loeb is one of the greatest rally drivers of all time, but way to old to move to F1, this is just a "candy" from RB, it gives you wings. But i`d like to see him again at Le mans 24H.

Toyota to start 2009 without KERS

Ferrari has also hinted that they might have to start the season without KERS which will definitely put them into a serious disadvantage.

I really don't like this KERS thing. It supposedly gives you sudden boosts of power,a thing you see in junior formulas.I don't like that, its artificial and a gimmick. Also its very expensive and will probably favour the manufacturer teams, two things F1 is trying to avoid. And with mechanics being given electric shocks(literally) it really is bad for F1 in my opinion.

Well the efficiency and reliability of a KERS system still has some question marks. Starting after everyone else doing it and learning lessons from them could turn out to be an advantage.

I start to feel 'the drought' in early December, forget about it with loads of premier league footy over xmas (and itv season review) then get bored in jan/feb/mar and find myself wathing the new testing vids every day on utube
