Senna on Mansell's Car

Post by shailf1 » 19 Aug 2008, 13:24

Watch as Nigel Mansell wins the 1991 British GP. After Senna's car fails Mansel pulls over and Senna rides back on his car. Great stuff you wouldn't see today.

Well the bastards(FIA) would fine Mansell for that now. When Schumi picked up Fisichella in the 1997 German GP he was fined several thousand dollars for doing so.

I watched that race, Senna`s car didn`t fail, he ran out of fuel in the last lap. At the time Ayrton wanted to go to Williams cause it was the best car, so this became a "joke" at the time that this was the only way that Frank Williams had Senna in one of his cars. Schumi did the same for Alesi in Canada in 1995. These "rides" were normal things in those days.

Great footage. Mansell and Senna two of the greatest personalities ever in F1. Todays drivers can only dream of their greatzness on and especially off the track.

Michael picked up Fisico in 97 and Alesi in 95, but according to the majority of people he was an arrogant prick who only took care of himself and hated the other drivers, well...

Michael just did contraversial things either in the heat of the WDC moment, or when he was winning so comfortably that he forgot about car control. I personally don't think he was horrible.

But Mansell was arrogant. I would love to use the word prick, but I've got to be moderate.

As for these videos, I guess it is kind of dangerous, but this is the kind of thing F1, so safety conscious, lacks.
No, I'm not calmer. Just more jaded.

I wasn't a fan of F1 yet when the Senna-Mansell incident happened, however, last year i saw a model of it at Alex Reade's F1 shop in london.

The picture is not that clear as there was glass in front of the camera.

Remember when David Coulthard picked up Mika Hakkinen after Mika had retired whilst leading on the last lap of the Spanish GP 2001?

I had the opportunity to meet Mansell during the 1993 ausrfers paradise Indycar GP here in Australia, and i have to say he was the complete opposite to what you are saying he was.

Those videos bring back great memories, cheers!

You can't give other drivers a ride back to the pits after the race now because if they did all the weak flimsy aerodynmic c**p would get crushed. Hopefully next years rule changes will make this possible again!

It seems like the cars would just overheat if they stop today...
