FIA unveils provisional 2009 calendar
Autosport wrote:Provisional 2009 calendar:

10 May Spain
24 May Monaco
7 June Canada
21 June Great Britain
28 June France
12 July Germany
26 July Hungary
9 August Turkey
23 August Europe (Valencia)
6 September Italy
13 September Belgium
27 September Singapore
11 October Japan
18 October China
1 November Brazil
15 November Abu Dhabi
Here are some differences in 2009 calender. There will be 19 races, four of which will be back to back (Aussi > Malaysia | GB > France | Italy > Belgium | Japan > Chaina). France-GB GP and Italy-Belgium GP's swapped their places. Turkish GP is again moved to August.

Finally, season decider race will be Abu Dhabi, instead of Brazil. You know, it's very interesting decision if you read this article, of course bearing in mind that Adu Dhabi is the capital city of UAE. Very very interesting.

Next season may end 15 November? Hope Abu Dhabi isn't too bad timing wise. The late start must be because of the late finish (November),so they can have the same length of offseason.

Good that Magny-Cours will stay in calendar.

The French GP will indeed be hosted in Magny Cours in 2008:

The mid-November ending looks interesting, but the season also starts two weeks later than this year which would mean a long winter break. But as it says, it's only a provisional calendar.

Interesting calendar.

At least we only have one 3 week distance, the other are 2 week or less.

Pity that the season is starting so late, but i like the idea of finishing so late in the year.

2009 Race Calendar

Post by iceman1 » 30 Jun 2008, 17:43

19 races and the season finale is in Abu Dhabi http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/68626

The whole point of Brazil being the season finale as I recall was that it's timezone allowed the finale to be in prime time in Europe.

For this to continue the Abu Dhabi race would have to be timed similarly to the MotoGP event at Qatar earlier this season, namely late evening local time.

Is Abu Dhabi a Street circuit or road track? Rumours have it that plans for a half-street/half-permanent circuit - like Singapore, in fact - have been dropped, and that it will be a full street circuit, or even vice-versa.

I thought that Abu Dhabi was a street track. I think that Abu Dhabi should be moved earlier in the season, with Silverstone later. Also, why does the season start so late!?

The season starts late because this years season ends later and so does next years.
