The Williams and Spyker teams kicked off on Monday one of their final tests ahead of the start of the 2007 season, working at the Valencia circuit.

While the rest of the teams travel to Bahrain for this week's test at the Sakhir circuit, both Williams and Spyker will carry out their programmes at the Spanish track.

The British squad set the pace on the opening day of work, with test driver Kazuki Nakajima finishing on top of the times with a best time of 1:12.953.

The young Japanese driver, who caused the only red flag of the day when he went off at the first corner, outpaced racing driver Alex Wurz.

Spyker's test drivers Giedo van der Garde and Adrian Valles made their debut at the wheel of the new F8-VII car, the Dutchman finishing as quickest, ahead of teammate Adrian Sutil.

Spaniard Valles was the slowest of the three after 49 laps.

Both teams will continued testing at Valencia tomorrow.

Alexander Wurz finished on top of the times for the second day running at the Valencia circuit, where Williams and Spyker are testing this week.

Wurz's best time of 1:11.614, achieved in the morning, was over three tenths of a second quicker than teammate Nico Rosberg, who took over from test driver Kazuki Nakajima at the wheel of the second FW29.

Christijan Albers also began working today after skipping the first day of testing, the Dutchman leading the Spyker trio ahead of the teammate Adrian Sutil and test driver Fairuz Fauzy.

The Malaysian was making his Formula One debut after being announced as part of Spyker's line-up earlier this year. The fastest Spyker, however, was nearly two seconds off Wurz' pace.

There were no red flags during the day.

Both team continues at Valencia tomorrow.

Yes. That is very interesting.

He is their third driver after all so you would have thought he would have done some testing.

He did get time off to contest the Taupo round of A1GP from permission from Williams and if I am not mistaken is contesting most of he next rounds of the series.

I have also heard of a possible Le Mans 24 drive but yeah very interesting.

The Williams and Spyker teams wrapped up on Wednesday their three-day test at the Valencia circuit in Spain.

While the rest of the teams getting ready to start working in Bahrain tomorrow, Williams and Spyker completed their programme at the Spanish track, where Nico Rosberg finished on top of the times with his Toyota-powered FW29.

Both teams were forced to run with wet weather tyres until mid-morning due to some overnight showers. The rest of the day's work took place on a dry track.

Rosberg was joined by the team's test driver Narain Karthikeyan, who took over from Austrian Alex Wurz at the wheel of the second Williams.

Adrian Sutil and Dutch teammate Christijan Albers were in charge of testing duties for Spyker.

German Sutil caused the only red flag of the day when smoke started coming out from his brake discs, before all the car's wheels caught fire and needed to be extinguished by the track marshals.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. Rosberg Williams-Toyota (B) 1:11.919 97
2. Sutil Spyker-Ferrari (B) 1:12.492 47
3. Albers Spyker-Ferrari (B) 1:13.092 115

Kimi denies being an engine breaker

La Gazzetta Dello Sport interviewed Kimi during the testing in Barcelona.

Ferrari´s Finnish star was asked to comment the claims from McLaren camp that he would be an engine breaker.

"I don´t believe that I am and I´m not interested about what they say about me" was Kimi´s replay to Italian media.

McLaren´s new MP4-22 has proven to be reliable and fast in the winter testing and apparently very competitive.

"Maybe they are able to make a good car every two years. McLaren is a top team and that shouldn´t be forgotten", Kimi thought about his former team

Thanks i hadn't read this before. I seriously love the way he can answer that kind of questions, he doesn't care what people think.

Lunch time report.

F1 testing resumed this morning as nine began running in the final full test of the winter in Bahrain.

Chosen to test the Bridgestone tyres in hotter weather than the recent Spanish tests, only Williams and Spyker – who have been running at Valencia earlier in the week – are not present at the desert circuit.

The teams will run a total of six days over the next two weeks, with the first test beginning today and running until Saturday, and a further three days beginning on Tuesday next week. Following the test the teams will make their way to Melbourne, Australia, for the first race of the 2007 season on Sunday, the 18th of March.

As at lunch time on day one the pace was being set by Ferrari, who are running in full Marlboro livery as is permitted in Bahrain, with Felipe Massa leading the field with a lap of 1:32.346. In a surprise second fastest at this point was Rubens Barrichello, the Honda RA107 showing pace that seems to back up the teams lack of concern over recent results.

Kimi Raikkonen had set third fastest time in the second Ferrari, with the Renault of Heikki Kovalainen and the BMW of Nick Heidfeld next in line.

Toyota and Red Bull continue to struggle for outright pace as both teams, running Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher, and David Coulthard and Mark Webber respectively, languish at the bottom of the time sheets some three seconds away from the pace at this early stage in the proceedings.
