Reports are that Hakkinen might test on one of the three days this week. from f1live.com

Quote:
1998 and 1999 World Champion Mika Hakkinen will test a McLaren Mercedes when the winter period kicks off at Circuit de Catalunya this week, according to newspaper reports in Spain.

The 38-year-old Finn left Formula One in 2001, but returned last year to the DTM touring car series and has in recent days been doing laps in the Woking based team's computer simulator.

Ron Dennis admitted this week that Hakkinen is 'keen to contribute' to McLaren's F1 programme.

The Team Principal added: "On the basis that Kimi (Raikkonen) and Juan Pablo Montoya not being available and not being appropriate to the work we are doing for next year, Mika can evaluate some of the things we are developing and bringing to the car."

Spain's Diario As contends that McLaren 'intend to take advantage of (Hakkinen's) experience with Bridgestone tyres' at the test.

The newspaper did not say on which of the three days in Barcelona Hakkinen would test.

The sports daily Marca, meanwhile, headlined the latest Hakkinen rumour as predicting that the Finn is going to be McLaren's 'sport advisor' in 2007.

Hakkinen, at the McLaren factory again this week, was quoted as saying: "It is just rumours. It is still my objective to be in the DTM but if McLaren asks me to help them then I am very happy to do that."

Dennis, meanwhile, reportedly said: "Mika's presence is going to be very important. He is incredibly enthusiastic, he knows this team inside-out and is going to help us to develop the car."

Can he fit into one of these after 3 years? :-k

McLaren has confirmed that Mika Hakkinen will test alongside Lewis Hamilton at Barcelona on Thursday.

The Finn hasn't driven competitively in F1 since retiring from the sport at the end of 2001

I think they just want a world champion to be there for Lewis. Why not?! They now have two World Champions on the pay roll, use it I say!

Cant wait to see the pics!

Article discussing why Mika might be testing.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/55838

There are some similairities between Hamilton's debut and Mika's debut. So he might be brought in as a mentor to Hamilton, which is good news for Hamilton. :o

Apparently Mika is testing because Fernando's Renault contract hasn't expired yet so he's not alowed in the Mclaren, not sure though.

Essen , Germany , 30 th November 2006 : Team McLaren Mercedes is pleased to confirm that it will run with dampers provided by KONI during the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship season. The announcement marks the start of a long-term relationship that sees KONI become Official Supplier of Automotive Dampers to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

“We are delighted that KONI is joining our world class group of Official Suppliers by working with us to integrate what we believe is the next generation in damping technology to our race car,â€￾ said Jonathan Neale, Managing Director, McLaren Racing. “We have been running with KONI dampers since the San Marino Grand Prix in the 2006 season, and there has been a focus in our test program on collaborative development between ourselves and KONI with regards to FSD dampers. We are looking forward to continuing this relationship into the 2007 Championship.â€￾

“I'm very pleased about our Official Supplier position with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in 2007,â€￾ said Henk Kromhout, Marketing and Sales Director, KONI Worldwide. “Even though KONI has been an official supplier to Formula One racing since 1958, each person in Formula 1 recognizes that Team McLaren Mercedes forms a league of its own. Team McLaren Mercedes' engagement in the joint development of our breakthrough suspension technology FSD, has been inspiring and our engineering teams have made such impressive progress during the last 6 months, that we expect FSD to be a major differentiator. At the start of the 2007 season KONI will have been in business for 150 years and is looking forward to challenging for victory with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in this season of our anniversary.â€￾-Source McLaren

These dampers are better and try and do what the Renault nose dampers did, that's to minimise the vibrations allowing the tyres to grip the road better. The team has been running these dampers since Imola 2006.

Renault testing round up. Heikki is satisfied. from itv.com/f1
Quote:
Heikki Kovalainen described himself satisfied with Renault's first test on Bridgestone tyres after ending the Barcelona session third fastest overall behind Ferrari drivers Luca Badoer and Felipe Massa.

Crucially the world champion team was just 0.3s slower than Ferrari on the final day, despite the Italian team's vast experience of Bridgestone's products.

"This was a very important test for us, because it was the start of the winter programme, and also because we were running with the Bridgestones for the first time," said Kovalainen.

"We didn’t set any quick lap-times on the first few days, but we knew how competitive we could be, and we were following a deliberate plan to learn about the tyres.

"We stuck to that plan, and it paid off by the final day when we had completed our programme, and set some good times.

"It was a very positive week."

The Finn added that he'd had no problems getting used to the switch from Michelin to Bridgestone.

"I had to adapt my driving style a little bit because the tyres have much less grip, which means you have to brake earlier and carry less speed into the corner," he said.

"But I got used to that pretty quickly."

Renault's test team manager Christian Silk described Renault's first Bridgestone test as mission accomplishged.

"When we arrived in Barcelona, our main aim was to understand how to run the car, in collaboration with our new partner Bridgestone," he said.

"We achieved that, which is very positive.

"The whole team put in a lot of effort this week, working late into the night to prepare the cars and analyse the data. And I think the progress we have made over the three days shows the effort was worth it.â€￾

Only Toyota are testing today. Looks like Ferrari have wound up a day early.

So far with 40 minutes to go, Trulli has set the fastest lap of this week with a 1.15.936. That's half a second quicker than the fastest Ferrari. So don't rule Toyota out yet

-----------------------------------------

Final test times for 01/12/2006

Both Toyota's go quicker than anyone else this week.
