Great news for F1 in Britain and all the other countries that take British commentary. No more ad breaks is great, though I hope they keep most of the ITV staff as their race coverage is generally quite good

Was about to post this news too!

Really excited about them returning back to BBC. No matter what anybody says, having an ad break in the middle of a live race is just pure madness.

Can't see a negative point behind this move to be honest.

As long as James Allen & Martin Brundle stay in the commentators seats, I'm happy.

Are James & Martin specifically attached to ITV or F1?

I reckon they will keep most of the team, as Murray moved from the beeb to Itv in 96/97.

I found this news a surprise thought as ITV signed the rights until 2012 or something last year, and have only just signed the online rights within a week.

Now the BBC have taken everything away from them

The BBC's F1 podcasts have always been good and have never been as Lewis-centric as anything ITV ever did

Maybe Dave Croft will be the commentator

In a way its a shame as ITV (bar Allen) were just about starting to do a good job of it, but no ad breaks is good. I hope Brundle goes to the Beeb as well

Hope they keep Brundle. About the fleetwood mac tune, although it is a classic bbc f1 theme, I don't think it would suit the modern era and I'm particularly sentimental about it and prefer if accompanying images of Senna, Mansell Prost et al rather than todays lot.

I live in Ireland so i watch on Setanta (who have excellent commentators) so this doesnt effect so much. All the same i'm very excited at the prospect of hearing that origninal intro theme music again.

Word on the street is that Brundle is the only one that will be retained.

http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_ ... t_id=34209

"According to Pitpass sources, David Croft, currently Radio Five Live commentator and said to be a "shoo-in for the James Allen job", was being given a semi-audition for ITV by North One (who do the production for ITV) a year early by doing the GP2 commentary live on TV this year.

We understand that Mark Sharman, head of ITV Sport, is heading out to Sepang to explain to his crew why they've lost their jobs.

Word on the street is that Jonathan Ledgard is a possibility for commentator, of course, with Martin Brundle expected to be the only one retained from current commentary line-up."

As this is probably DC's last year in F1, maybe he could join the commentary team? :P
