Drivers fighting over number one status!

Fisichella

"At the test in Barcelona and Jerez we were six or seven candidates for a drive. I went quick and they chose me. I've signed for two years."

The veteran driver also said he expects to have number one status at his new team.

"I'm the reference point, the number one driver, thanks to my experience. Sutil comes after that."

Sutil disputes Fisi's 'number one' claim

Adrian Sutil has disputed new teammate Giancarlo Fisichella's claim that the veteran Italian will be the 'number one' driver at Force India in 2008.

"In a building-up process it would not make any sense to have a driver hierarchy -- we will keep that for when, one day, we will be fighting for podiums," the German told F1's official website.

Also speaking to F1.com, Fisichella clarified that he has not talked specifically about his number one status with the Silverstone based team's bosses.

"But they told me that I am the experienced one and that I have to lead the team," he explained.

"I am sure that the material will be exactly the same for both of us but I feel the responsibility to lead the growth and progress," Fisichella added.

Fisi clarifies his comments:

He means he's going to lead the team, not be the "number one" driver, which makes sense given his experience.

Fisi is probably miffed about being the second driver during 2005 and 2006 and when 2007 was supposed to be his year, it didn't quite work out. So now he probably wants to get the position he so desires. Although the team should concentrate more on getting past Q3 than think about these kind of matters.

At least Fisi's contract is 2 years so he won't be replaced that quickly after all.

Tester Liuzzi ready to race, Gascoyne warns

Vitantonio Liuzzi is ready to step into a racing cockpit if Force India's 2008 lineup does not perform adequately, technical boss Mike Gascoyne has warned.

The Briton suggests that Toro Rosso refugee Liuzzi, who has been signed as the team's test driver this year, will put pressure on colleagues Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil to push hard this season.

"If they need any motivation, they need only look at who the test driver is," Gascoyne told the British news agency Reuters.

"The message is very clear for Fisi, for both the race drivers. If they want to be driving in 2009, they have got to deliver. If not, there is a guy who will be driving in 2009," he added.
