Hamilton fined for speeding in France
Tuesday, 18, December, 2007, 12:32
Lewis Hamilton has had his driving licence suspended for a month after being caught speeding on a French motorway.
According to a report by news agency Reuters, the 22-year-old was driving a Mercedes on Sunday when he was clocked at 196km/h (122mph) near the northern town of Laon.
Police stopped him, impounded the car and fined him 600 euros (£430).
“He was very polite and cooperative,” said a police spokesman, who added that Hamilton had since had the car collected for him.

he can drive fast on a track whenever he wants why risk it on the streets.... what if he screwed up and crashed????
Re: lewis speeding in france
196km/h is fast but it is not that special, I was doing 257km/h a flat out in a merc E400cdi, I can imagine him thinking like it's not a big deal really

Hehe, so your buddy let you drive his brand new merc at 257 km/h? !grin! He must really trust you. $peace Anyway, I can't even imagine what it must feel like driving at that speed, I just got my drivers licence and I'm still struggling (with going faster that is )... I think I'm going to leave the speed for the F1 races.reyhan wrote:it was really special, my heart almost broke, it was my friend's brand new merc, I'm for bmw

So kids don't try this at home. $peace

If it is the same fine and ban that is given to normal people, I think it they should not prefer vip's or drivers.
122mph is little eh.

Re: lewis speeding in france
Here's the interesting part. I live in North America, as many of you know, and going 60-80 mph (100-130 km/h) is fast enough, according to our laws. In the province I live in, Ontario, if you're caught going 50 km/h (31 mph) over the speed limit, you're stopped, slapped with a huge fine (up to $10,000), and your car is impounded for a week. So, using the laws we have here, I would think that it is fair. However, I went to Europe last summer, and going at around 120 km seemed to be the norm rather than the regular 100 that we have here, so I'm conflicted.
Thanks for reading my post, which equated to nothing!

Re: lewis speeding in france
Even though the posted speed limit was 120 km/h on places like the German autobahn, I saw cars speed by at much faster speeds. In France though, 120 seemed to be what everyone was doing...
