14:17 At this morning Time reference for Heidfeld was 21.2 of Coulthard, at the same time Kubica had for reference 20.8 of Trulli, but now they've changed it to DC best's time reference, maybe that means Trulli cut chicane on his best lap

Elsewhere it was also mentioned that Kimi's F2008 had stopped due to technical problem when he was doing race simulation and had covered only 8 laps. Ferrari managed to fix the problem and Kimi got back on track and he probably continued the simulation as he had covered 80 laps in the end.

There's been quite many reliability issues with F2008, eh?

Raikkonen had a race simulation on his agenda, which he completed despite several interruptions caused by red flags and one precautionary stop to carry out a check on the car at the start of the afternoon. By the end of the day, Kimi had done 80 laps, the quickest in 1:21.933.

They say it's a precautionary stop, not a reliability problem.

Bu anyway, it's been just 15 days to Melbourne and McLaren experienced nearly no technical problem at all, whereas Ferrari had plenty. Indeed, McLaren is not that slow as compared to Ferrari as some said. It's not encouraging for the read car (and for me also :)).

:cheezy: :nosweat: don't jinx em :cheezy: :cheezy: :cheezy: well in my opinion, it's better for those reliability problems to pop out now at the tests than for them to come during the races coz to be able to have a chance for the championship points a car must first finish the race

ok, every website I've seen today shows the above, EXCEPT ONE - BMW Sauber F1 Team , which states:
Nick did 93 laps ... personal best of 1:22.299.
Robert ...1:22.624 minutes...61 laps.

not that it matters, but who mixed up?

With 17 days to go until Melbourne, triple world champion Niki Lauda believes Ferrari maintains a commanding lead at the front of the 2008 formula one field.

The Austrian legend and former Ferrari and McLaren driver told his local daily Kronen Zeitung that, contrary to speculation that McLaren has closed the gap in recent days, the Italian team is between "0.5 and 0.8 seconds per lap" ahead of all comers in full race trim.

But Lauda cautions observers to withhold their estimation of the true pecking-order until after the formula one circus has left Albert Park in just over two weeks' time.

"Melbourne is an atypical circuit, just like Monte Carlo.

"We will only know the true balance of power at the second race in Malaysia," he explained.

Quote:
Veteran Renault engineer Pat Symonds, meanwhile, in the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, depicts a tantalising prospect for the forthcoming battle behind Ferrari.

"According to our calculations, McLaren are part of the big second group to which BMW, Red Bull, Williams and ourselves belong.

"And depending on the circuit, there are only about three tenths separating the best from the worst," he added.

Williams' Sam Michael paints a slightly more common picture, by estimating that McLaren is clearly the next best team after Ferrari.

"Ferrari are about three of four tenths ahead of them (McLaren), and seven or eight tenths before the group including BMW, Renault, Red Bull and us," he said.

Teams to test slicks again in April

Formula one teams will once again trial slick tyres when testing resumes at the Barcelona circuit in mid-April.

Following the first slick tests at Jerez in December, the sport's sole tyre supplier Bridgestone on Thursday revealed that teams will once again be provided with "experimental" slicks in anticipation of a rule change for 2009.

"Of course, we are looking to a possible bigger (regulation) change for next season, and that is why we will be evaluating our latest slick development tyre when we next test in April," the Japanese marque's Technical Manager Tetsuro Kobayashi said.

Kobayashi also confirmed that Bridgestone's tyres for this season have only been slightly modified compared to 2007.

"We have modified the super soft compound, but this will not be seen in use until later in the year. The other compounds, the hard, medium and soft, are the same as last year," he said.

As was the case last season, Bridgestone's medium and soft compounds will be supplied to teams at the forthcoming Australian Grand Prix.

Thank God the winter testing and all the speculation that goes with it is over. Now we can focus on some real racing and not on the crums that testing offered us this whole winter Flag:##

Two weeks left!!! !yahoo: That's just as much as we have to wait during the season in between gps so it's not that painful anymore :p

Toyota have produced a good car. The team have mentioned a few times after long run tests how happy they were with Trulli's times
Ferrari's Aldo Costa believes Toyota could be the surprise team of 2008

The Honda Racing team completed their preparations for the start of the season with a three-day test at the Jerez circuit.

The Japanese squad worked alone during the three days, with Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello being joined by test driver Alex Wurz as the team tried their latest aerodynamic and mechanical developments.

Each driver was at the wheel of the RA108 for two days, covering a total of 603 laps, over 2670 kms of running. No times were issued by the team.

I think Honda has a surprise for us. They didn't give their lap times :)

Or maybe they're just so slow that they're ashamed to show the times? :?
