How good is Sebastian Vettel?

Post by TommyBellingham » 09 Jun 2009, 20:15

I rate him highly. He is my joint favourite driver along with Hamilton.

He out performed the Toro Rosso massively in 2008 and has done well this year after being put into a top team so young. :)

Some people are saying he can only drive in the wet and is overated?

What do you think :shhh:

Rated 10

Not because am a Red Bull supporter , since the day this guy came into F1 he impressed everyone , he drove in Free Practices he was fast , most of the T-Drivers looses their racing spirit unlike this guy who tested a lot , he came to Toro Rosso his results were okay till ... Monza last season he made it to Pole Position then won the Gp leading the Super-Teams Ferrari , McLaren and BMW who were fighting on title , he helped his team mate to score points and pushed him up (Bourdais) he then kept scoring points during the last races of the season and placed for the first time the "Toro Rosso" which shares everything in tech with sister team Red Bull ahead of them ... currently at Red Bull first race he got dnf cause of an accident he was blamed at , Malaysia under rain Webber was looking in a better shape yet he kept pushing till he spun and got stuck and i believe if this guy keeps his style and keep learning from his mistakes he will be a Champion in Red Bull or even Force India  ...

Vettel could be the next Micheal Schumacher, but he's not got to make mistakes when he's under pressure (eg, Turkey), and that the team does make a major cock-up. He's not just talented in the wet, he came second in Bahrain with no KERS, no adjustable flap and no DDD.

Rated 8. He's good, but is he that good - we've seen flashes of absolute brilliance, Monza 2008, Valencia 2008, Spa 2008, Brazil 2008, China 2009 - but then there have been races of impetuosity (is that a word) - Fuji 2007, Start of 2008, Monaco 2009, which shows he is still young, but very gifted. But he has to beat Webber this year. Now he has a good car - but he's lacking that final touch, although he is a breath of fresh air for F1 in terms of personality. I think no-one in F1 can be given a 10/10, but I'd say he's up on 8/10 with Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen and Button

This season reminds me of Schumi's first full season in 1992 at Benetton-lots of speed and promise but with the odd error and display of impetuosity (see Schumi at Magny-Cours when he hits Senna or Canada when he held up the faster Brundle for 2/3 of the race). Also occasionally being beaten by an experienced teammate (Brundle beat Schumi a few times in 92 and Webber has beaten Vettel with better strategy twice this season). I find real parallells there.

I thought he was good last season becasue of what he did in not a good car, but now when he was expected to deliver he is not doing fantastic. his mistake in turkey was not a good sign. but i am pretty sure he will mature and be good. but his inexperience is showing..
