Alonso has Honda seat fitting - report
"Nov.29 (GMM) Fernando Alonso spent an entire day at Honda's Brackley factory this week and even had a seat fitting, reports from Germany on Thursday said. Sport Bild claims that the double world champion, who is still yet to commit to a team for 2008 after splitting with McLaren, is 'nearing an agreement' with the Japanese outfit that recently tabbed Ross Brawn as its new team boss.
It is reported that the first approach to Alonso about possibly joining Honda was made by F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, after the previously Nick Fry-led team embarrassingly netted a mere six points with its RA107 'earth car' this year.
Sport Bild said Alonso would take the place of Rubens Barrichello; the Brazilian veteran who would move to Honda's satellite team Super Aguri in 2008 as Takuma Sato's new teammate.
Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad on Thursday was not contactable."
Sport Bild observed: "With Brawn and Alonso, the fate of the Honda team would be secured".

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
i really doubt toyota and since honda is out of the equation, i guess it'll most likely be renault IMOzack wrote:Honda denies Alonso rumours

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
Denying at this point doesn't necessarily mean that it wouldn't be possible.
Anyway, reportedly Toyota and Honda are the only teams who have offered Alonso a one year contract. He's had many options to choose from but apparently this request of a short contract has limited the options quite a bit.
So what I've read:
Renault: hasn't offered a one year contract so Alonso isn't probably going there unless he's going to stick there for a longer time.
Toyota: Alonso would replace Trulli who still has 2 years of his contract left. So Trulli would probably become a test driver for one year then.
Honda: Alonso would definitely replace Barichello, but there would be another competitive driver to face against (Button).
Red Bull: hasn't reportedly offered a one year contract yet but Alonso is still waiting for their final offer. There's also rumors that Renault might cancel their engine deal with Red Bull for 2009 if they hire Alonso.
IMO Alonso can go pretty much anywhere right now so I'm not guessing anything. I just hope he'd make his decision as soon as possible so that we'd see where the other guys like Kovalainen end up.

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
It would be sad for Heikki to be chucked out of Renault for Alonso to step in, leaving him without a seat or in a very inferior car. I prefer to see Alonso out rather than him.
Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
true... sad if hakki is going out... but i guess fisi is going out of Renault if alonso signs with them...
pretty difficult to guess where alonso is going?

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
where will alonso be in 2008? well, there are reports he might return to mclaren...... very interesting
Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
Yes, but it's more like a desperate effort from the Spanish press. You don't just kick a driver and then beg him to come back... %Biggrin

I really have no idea where Alonso might be heading now.

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
Well, David Coulthard is adamant that if Alonso is to join Red Bull Racing, it won't be at Coulthard's expense:

Coulthard is tipping that Alonso may take a sabbatical for 2008 and return in 2009

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
How funny that Webber is saying it's Coulthard who will be replaced if someone is going to be replaced. Perhaps the Red Bull drivers are a bit afraid of losing their jobs?iceman1 wrote:Well, David Coulthard is adamant that if Alonso is to join Red Bull Racing, it won't be at Coulthard's expense:

Ferrari never an option for 2008 - Alonso

So, will we ever see him in Ferrari?

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
Schumacher about first seeing Vettel a number of years ago: ''When you, as a young boy, are the only one driving on slicks in a wet kartrace, and become second, then that's pretty exceptional. Sebastian did it. I gave him the trophee after that race. From that point on, I've kept following his carreer. We'll see how he'll perform next year.''
Has Vettel title winning potential ? ''No doubt whatsoever, of course he has the potential for it. But the circumstances must also play in his advantage in order for him to do it on hiw own.
Schumi knows it won't be easy with (an old) Toro Rosso car: ''You're strongly dependent on the team. But he has often shown to have the talent. And this year he's managed to be at the right place at the right time in Formula 1. And with his car he has shown things that on forehand one couldn't easily have expected.''
Probably next driver for Ferrari if schumix continue adviser role !grin!

Re: Where will be Alonso in 2008?
Well, it's not like he is going to say that he would looove to be in a Ferrari now that he has just signed for Renault. How would that sound? But I think he's not one to limit his options...AzShadow wrote:Ferrari never an option for 2008 - Alonso

Anyway, I don't see a chance for that to happen in the next two years. After that, who knows
