Domenicali reveals 2008 qualifying tweaks
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/n ... 3724.shtml

So no more fuel burn? At least Q1 will be more boring as nobody's going to drive for the first 10 mins anyway. :?

I don't quite know what to make of this new rule. Yeah it may cut that fuel burning period in Q3 that seemed like a procession, but on the other hand the cars will spend less time on track in qualy so that they don't waste fuel. So we may even see cars that will only have one flying lap in Q3. :( And thus we won't be able but to speculate on the real speed and performance of the car on a certain track.

And I don't really see the point of the whole fuel regs in qualy. It clearly didn't mix the front-runners with the others in the previous years but for a Toyota or so in a couple of races, so I don't quite understand why they insist on this. ''hmm'' Maybe someone could enlighten me...

But I do like the three time zone qualy, as I felt that the single flying lap was boooring to death and the 12 laps qualy had little action in the firs 20 min or so and very poor tv coverage when most needed.

Piquet confirms desire to beat Alonso

Not so sure if they allow him to do that. ''hmm'' But it might lead to some interesting battles again.:

Nah, Briatore won't have another kid messing up with Alonso's head.
Nelsinho knows his role in that team... But what was he supposed to say, that he'll be Alonso's broomstick next year? &doh

Well, let's just say that it's very likely that he will be :p

Anyway, when are Force India going to officially announce their drivers for 2008? I'm sure the drivers would need as much testing as possible so I would expect them to be driving at the first tests already. Unless Force India still hasn't made up their mind and wants the drivers to compete against each other.

F2007 weakness solved

If Ferrari can keep their pace from fast tracks in slow tracks too, they will definitely be in good shape.

Newly crowned world champion Kimi Raikkonen will be the first to sample Ferrari's 2008 car.

According to the German news agency DPA, the 28-year-old Finn is scheduled to test the car with which he will defend his crown in 2008 on January 7th, the day after it is launched.

The launch and test will take place at Fiorano, the Italian team's private circuit located near the Ferrari headquarters at Maranello.

Raikkonen's maiden test in the 2008 Ferrari will coincide with the presentation of top rival McLaren's new challenger in Stuttgart, Germany.

The next day, the Mercedes-powered team will begin testing the MP4-23 with two completed single seaters at an exclusive three day session at Jerez, Spain.

BMW aiming for first win this year

Heidfeld also talks about the lack of traction control and launch control:
Heidfeld said he also expected the ban on traction control and launch control this year to have a big impact on races.

"I am anxious to see how the starts will look like," he said. "At the moment we are working on that. In the past years we had the launch control or at least some help. That is why the starts were always pretty predictable.

"In the beginning Renault always had fantastic starts and after that we had very good starts. Before the return of the launch control it was easy to gain or loose positions during the start. Therefore the next season will be more interesting again.

"The ban on traction control is also going to make things more thrilling. There's going to be more drifts, you will make mistakes more easily which should lead to more overtaking manoeuvres - especially when you are under pressure."
