Re: F1 2008 -updated-
Witmarsh has dropped strong hints that one of Mac's test drivers, de la Rosa or Paffet could join Hamilton next year as an official drivers. He also suggested that Hamilton would be the no.1 driver at McLaren next year. Well, duh

I wonder where that leaves Kovalainen, with Briatore having stated that Renault will have different drivers for next year.

Re: F1 2008 -updated-
If Alonso doesn't come to Renault, Kovalainen will continue there. If Alonso comes, however, then I guess Kovalainen will be out... :?

Re: F1 2008 -updated-
It's clearly time for Ralf to go. He had his time to show what he could do in his Williams days and at that point, he was amongst my favourites. And he did have some good races ...But he developed some motivational issues and ne doesn't quite seem to be able to handle them. So I think it's time for a graceful exit...
I hope the other option Heikki is talking about is McLaren, but his chances aren't looking too good at the moment. I just wish Alonso would make up his mind once and for all...

Re: F1 2008 -updated-
According to a Finnish publication Turun Sanomat it's very likely that Alonso will sign to Renault and then Heikki is going to Toyota replacing Trulli who does have a contract and two years remaining, though. :?. But I guess the contracts don't matter so much these days.

Who Goes Where In 2008

Apart from Super Aguri and Force India, it's all clear now. More importantly, the top team spots have now been taken. If 2007 was an interesting season, 2008 should be another interesting one as there have been changes in two top teams, McLaren and Renault again.

Re: F1 2008 -updated-
Spare cars are not allowed next season? I didn't know that one.
Is there any reasonable reason for that because I mean if you like break your car in the practice an hour or two before the race, then what will you do? If the mechanics can't make the job done quick enough, you just won't race?
As for tyre warmers, I read Coulthard talking about it, but I wasn't aware that they were banned next season already.
IMO these are quite stupid and dangerous rulings from FIA and the F1 is going totally wrong direction.

Sorry, i did it wrong the part of Spare Cars, i found in Formula One Website this about Spare Cars:AzShadow wrote:Spare cars are not allowed next season? I didn't know that one.

"FIA regulations state that drivers may have no more than three cars available for use at any one time. Usually a team will bring three or four cars to a race; a race car for each of its two drivers, and one or two spare cars for use by either driver. Use of those spare cars is subject to various restrictions."
And the New Rules:
Gearboxes
In a bid to further improve reliability and cut costs, gearboxes must now last for four consecutive Grand Prix meetings. Every unscheduled gearbox change will require the relevant driver to drop five places on the grid at that meeting. If a driver fails to finish a race, he may start the next meeting with a new gearbox without incurring a penalty.
Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
From 2008, all teams must use a standardised, FIA-approved ECU to control their cars' electronics. AS well as providing a more level playing field in this area of development, the new ECU - which must run FIA-approved software - will allow the FIA to monitor the cars' performance more closely.
Traction control
Traction control - systems which prevent the rear wheels spinning if a driver applies too much power - are no longer permitted. This will place more emphasis on driver skill and should lead to more overtaking, as drivers are more likely to make mistakes.
Re: F1 2008 -updated-
Yeah I've heard about the other rules, but nothing about spare cars being forbidden.
I think it's certain that there will be no engine braking if you were wondering that.
You can read about EBS here: http://en.blog.ing-renaultf1.com/en/ind ... on-control
