Alonso demoted to 6th
There seems general agreement now that Alonso is demoted to 6th, but I'm sure I read somewhere that if he lost his last lap time it would be to 8th, so what gives?

There was som confusion in all this,

First, Reuters, pitpass and bbc say he still has pole, and Autosport and crashnet say he's 6th

Then, Reuters change and he'll start from 6th, and mc laren will not score any championship points.

Asked about his reaction at the end of the session, when he was seen slamming his headphones on the pitwall, Dennis explained that despite the all-McLaren front row result, he was frustrated by the errors made through the session.

Translation: Ron wanted Lewis to get the pole.: So with the news that came out... he'll be probably all good but pissed off at the same time.

wait, I'm really confused. So what's the official decision then? Ron said Hamilton was in the wrong, now the stewards are penalizing Alonso? ''hmm''

On the BBC website it says in the report that says Fernando is dropping to 6th that McLaren can't score... The drivers will but the constructors won't...

Alonso demoted to sixth in Hungary

By Biranit Goren Saturday, August 4th 2007, 21:39 GMT

World Champion Fernando Alonso has lost his pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix and will start tomorrow's race in sixth place.

The race stewards at the Hungaroring have decided to demote the McLaren driver after reviewing evidence from today's qualifying session, where the Spaniard held up teammate Lewis Hamilton in the pits, causing the Briton to miss out on a final flying lap and possible pole.

Alonso was adamant that he remained stationary for ten seconds because his engineers had told him to, while team boss Ron Dennis told reporters after the session that the incident was a result of Hamilton himself ignoring team orders earlier on in the session, therefore leaving the two drivers out of sequence.

The stewards talked to representatives of the team and reviewed recordings of the car radio transmissions before making their decision, over eight hours after qualifying ended.

now, Mc Laren are going to appeal against the points lost in this race, if they get any.

They cannot appeal Alonso's penalty, though.

fantasy at its best, xplor

well i thought so, but u never know. !cool!!!!

ONTOPIC: i'm a bit confused with this outcome. if alonso is find guilty then he should get some kind of penalty, and cutting of his last time(the pole one) seems fair. but why take of mclaren's points? its nonsense.. if alonso is to blame then its not the team...

They have just announced as well that McLaren will not be able to win any points for the Hungarian GP. I think this is a bit harsh...they are basically penalizing Hamilton as well now!

It looks as if Ferrari has a good chance of closing the gap to McLaren now...should make the rest of the race of the season quite interesting.

I think its good that they put Alonso back but than again I think Ron Dennis said to him drive and so its not Mclarens his fault that he didn't drive away, so the discision from FIA that they can't get points for the constructors championship is weak but ah well.

And Hamilton can get points for the driver championship only the can't get it for the constructos but than again where is ferrari Kimi 4th and Massa 14th or something so.

i think the points punishment is for mclaren trying to cover up the mess, it was blatent that RD knew there was something wrong, yet later he says it was Lewis's fault............
