He was slower in S1 and S2, so there was really no reason to complete the lap. Little did he know that there were 2+ seconds to be gained in S3 for cars going for a lap right at the end.

That's why Nico will win the championship.

Listening to Rosberg in the press conference was interesting. He said he knew all the time he lost in the final sector on the previous lap, so it didn't matter he was slower in the first two. He DID know there was time to be gained. Hamilton on the other hand just backed off...

IIRC Vettel was 2 seconds down on Hamilton after 2 sectors, he was 2 seconds quicker after the last one! Gained around 4 seconds.

Looking at the video clip, he backed off at the end of S1. Seems silly to give it up that early.

Yea. I hadn't seen it then.

I'm not trying to s**t stir here, but to me, what happened seemed like an aborted impeding attempt on the back of a failed one.

At first, Nico had to radio in for Lewis to get on with it, and he only made it by the skin of his teeth. Then, Lewis seemed abnormally slow through the first complex. I mean, we've seen the Mercs follow each other for many a race this year, yet I've never seen one of them close up on the other as much as Rosberg closed up on Hamilton in the first two or three corners. With the naked eye, he gained something around a second on Lewis in the first two or three turns, and we know how closely matched these two have been all season. Lewis couldn't have been backing out of the lap, because it had only just begun.

Then, he probably thought better of it and slowed down just before the entry to Brooklands on the inside of the circuit, in a final attempt to distract Nico maybe?

I mean, this probably sounds like silly conspiracy talk, but after what (possibly) happened in Monaco, Lewis could have been like 'If you want to play tricks on your home turf, then so can I'...

I think Vettel deserves to win tomorrow. I will be really happy if that happens. He just needs a good result after all that bad luck.

That Lewis Hamilton sky-diving piece on the BBC. How Mercedes allowed it is beyond me.

Both Ferraris are the only cars to start on primes.
