Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I see a Vettel win.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Hoping for a Webber or Alonso win.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Only 3 races between now and the summer break. Crazy, especially when you think how packed July was last year with 3 races in 4 weeks. The lack of New Jersey or Valencia has left an annoying hole in the calendar.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
This year seems really poor to be honest. The championship seems...... how do you put it, it just feels abit soulless. The gaps between the races are too long Donald, and for me theres not enough excitement. last year was very unique, you didnt know who was going to pull it out the bag, it was all so close. This year is just so boring, none of the races this year have been exciting even when Alonso won. yeah im glad he won, but it was boring racing, I dont feel any anticipation. It just feels..... I cant put my finger on it. I mean, Vettel has been flawless in his driving, I dare say just about all the top 6 have been near on flawless with just one or two mistakes this season. There seems to be a gap between the top cars consistently. Theres no title fight IMO this year. It just seems really flat.
Now Pirelli are opting to just bring hard compound tyres to every race and that just exacerbates the problem. Infact, I think I just have a big problem with Formula 1 as a whole now. Its boring with the artificiality, but its even more boring without it. I hate to say it, but I wish there was a spec series akin to F1. This year Im finding British Touring Cars 100% more entertaining and better. Last year was rubbish from Spa onwards; When pirelli just brought harder compounds to stop the criticism of wearing tyres.
I wish to god, Pirelli just made a Soft tyre and a hard tyre, thats it for the whole season. No deciding who to favour a few races before. They shouldve stated what tyres for each race at the start of the year.
As boring as it was, they should go back to 2005; one tyre compound, one set for the race, and just go. Admitted the fastest car wins as always and it never gave good racing but at least its not as manufactured. Rant over.

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
But then one tyre compound favoured Michelin etc etc. The 2000-04 era favoured Ferrari because of the Bridgestone ties etc etc
It's never going to be a perfect formula.
Last year wasn't rubbish from Spa onwards. Abu Dhabi, Austin and Brazil were awesome. There is a spec series akin to F1. It's called GP2 or IndyCar

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Pirelli will save face. Hard compounds.
If F1 wants exciting races, then Pirelli has to test; they showed initiative, and look at the mess... so Pirelli is saving their bussiness. On top of that F1 goes and talk to other tire people.....
Yet another failed F1 venture, thanks to trying to please too many commercial interests at the same time.

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I want real racing. The kind of racing we had in 2001.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
We aren't in a tyre war so its a moot point point. A single tyre, single compound, no tyre change by one supplier. Job done. Second half of Last year was rubbish, Abu Dhabi wasn't that good except for crashes. Austin was only good for Lewis on Vettel but again, the conservative tyre choice made a dull race on a fantastic track, Brazil was only good because of water. The tyres were too conservative for the 2nd half of the season, it went predictable and boring, and thats what Pirelli are doing now. Changing it to stop the whinging.phil1993 wrote:But then one tyre compound favoured Michelin etc etc. The 2000-04 era favoured Ferrari because of the Bridgestone ties etc etc

They should determine which compounds are at which races at the start of the season to stop what Pirelli did last year; change the game to stop the whinging.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I thought Austin was awesome personally.
But then you could say how much Bridgestone 07 > 10 favoured one team...
You can't just have two compounds of tyre. You'd have to make two hard ones if that was the case because two soft ones would fall apart at circuits such as Sepang.

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
No two compounds, just a single one that lasts the whole race, if you have to take care of it at the end, so be it. One tyre, no pit stops, job done. Though to me, that would also require ridding the complete reliance on aero. Oh well, it is what it is.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I'll be there friday Ticket arrived yesterday.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I hope its good weather for you. Would be hugely depressing if its raining and the teams do the usual installation lap, wait an hour, do a couple of laps then park up not bothering.Kevin Clark wrote:I'll be there friday Ticket arrived yesterday.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Should be ok. Even in the heavy rain last year they seemed to do a reasonable number of laps. Also GP2/3 and Porsche Cup so hopefully there's plenty to see. Taking a mate who's never been before so I'd like to see some dry running for his sake.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
So, anyone got a spare hotel room floor for me?
