2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Somehow it's a big slap for all the teams which condemn Pirelli's test with Mercedes. Now, all have the same opportunities. It was quite funny though thinking that few weeks ago some teams were very vocal on the test, and judging it was illegal and not a good sportmanship by using 2013 cars. But what happen now? They hated the test, and now they all ask the test. What a naive decision IMO.
At the very first place I have a thought that Pirelli's this year is something wrong.. It's just some of you guys thinking that Pirelli this year tyres are fine. No they're not. And after this race, it seems it proved itself. I don't know if Pirelli changing its tyres or not after the merc test, but after the test, it should have been a harder of tougher tyres. But then it still is exploding! Which is confusing..
Now some teams suggesting revertinng back to 2012 spec tyres, for safety concern. I think it was not a bad idea at all, since the beginning I think Pirelli was stupidly pushing the tyres to the limit. 2012 was good already, what would they expect in softer tyres of 2013?? Miracle in every race??
this test decision is good actually for safety concerns. But it was quite ironic for Merc to achieve such a punishment, yet it was a correct act judging by the condition of Pirelli's tyres.

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
They tyres were fine before they messed around with them without permission. They changed the bonding after Barcelona. Thing is, why is it ALWAYS the rear left tyres that fail? Bahrain was rear lefts were'nt they?
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I couldn't imagine if Merc was punished heavily back then by the IT.. Let's say a huge amount of fine and a DSQ on both WDC and WCC. It would be very funny, right? :-D
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
i think bahrain was right rear.. I remember hamilton and massa did have that delaminations... So, no wiring = delaminations, with wiring = explosions LOL :-D
The problem just not solved yet.. It probably is a flaw since the beginning...
Or probably it's because teams are switching the tyres? From left to right etc? Changing the not recommended tyres pressure to increase performance? It could be the cause isn't it?

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
I dont know. I know lewis' tyre in Bahrain was rear left, Massa's was rear right twice. There must be a failure at a certain speed or force. I remember pirelli blaming Abu Dhabi 2011 on too much heat on the tyres from the exhaust blowing, that was rear left too.
I dont know why it is. Isnt the Soft and Medium tyres the Medium/Hard tyres from 2012?

So reverse mounting of the tyres is named as a contributing factor by Pirelli, along with low pressures and extreme camber angles. The teams can't really complain when they're trying stuff like that.
In fact, Pirelli are getting all this s*** when it sounds like the teams are pretty much to blame.

I don't remember Pirelli changing the bonding being illegal, or needing permission.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
It sounds like what Red Bull at Spa 2011. Ran against Pirelli recommendations on the pressures...
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Yeah, then tried to get things changed in their favour rather than admit they were in the wrong...
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Its not a matter of being illegal or whatever (i think they would need approval to change the compunds, but not for other changes)... it's mostly a matter of what impact the change they introduced had on the failure mode...kals wrote:I don't remember Pirelli changing the bonding being illegal, or needing permission.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
Well it was confirmed early on that the revised bonding process had no part to play in the failures over the Silverstone weekend.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix
No it didnt have a part, but it most likely wouldve prevented the explosions. the way they were in bahrain they didnt explode. They were safe.
They changed that. They changed the safety.
