Very frightening! Lucky that the injuries were not fatal.

Awful crash for Dario, I hope he'll be back next year.

Last race of the season about to start.

Franchitti has been forced to retire due to his injuries :(

That is sad news. He is 40 and has had a great career, though, so he shouldn't feel robbed - but rather be thankful he still has his life after such a vicious accident. As I have said, IndyCar urgently needs to look in the mirror and address majors safety issues (specifically: circuit safety and driving standards), preferably before the next fatality or carrer-ender.

It's sad to see Franchitti retire. It's an unfortunate reality that motor racing is dangerous, and yes he's retiring with his life which is the most important thing.

Honestly, I only disagree with you on driving standards. I don't think they are bad - there is a great level of professionalism within the series.

So the inaugural Indianapolis road course GP started with a massive crash right at the start, when polesitter bogged down and didn't get anywhere, before he got collected by two cars from the back of the grid.

Standing starts generally are a good thing, but it seems to me that IndyCar is still putting spectacle before safety. Thankfully nobody got hurt this time.

Oh, Jesus. And those restarts are the stupidest thing I've seen in a while (and I've seen quite a bit).
