Gentlemen, Takuma Sato is now, at long last, an IndyCar race winner.

Takuma's first win in a professional motor race since Macau in 2001. That's a long time!

That is indeed a huge gap!

You have to wonder, though, if that first win is a sign of things to come or yet another instance of too little, too late. He looks very mature compared to the past but that's no wonder: he's 36. He can't have that many years left in top-level motorsport.

We'll see how he goes for the rest of the season I guess. Last season he was 35 and still crashed most races...

Indeed, but he was unlucky on occasion. Who wasn't gutted at his Indy500 glory shot?

For this year, I want the mayor of Hinchtown to win

It was such a perfect example of Sato being Sato, though. He would have had Franchitti on the back straight, he just needed to make him go defensive into turn 1. Instead he commited himself to an unreasonable move and - predictably enough - ended up in the wall.

Sato came very close to claiming a second straight victory. Having clung onto a hard-earned lead for the final 15 laps, he was unable to stop the fast-charging Hinchcliffe from overtaking him in the very last corner. Awesome end to an eventful race!

EDIT: amazingly, though, it seems that Sato is now leading the championship.

That was an awesome finish. I'm glad Marco made the podium.
