GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
A bit of a driver shakeup - Frijns replaces Daly at Hilmer while Rossi is in for Ma at Caterham.
Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
You have to wonder why Frijns didn't commit to a full GP2 programme in the first place. If this is really because he turned down genuine opportunities like Monisha Kaltenborn said, then he isn't very bright!
It feels like poetic justice that he's still working his way through the feeder series while the guy he shoved out of the way in Barcelona has not only made it to F1, but also managed to make a drastic impression in just three races in a backmarker team.

Marciello keeps impressing, I saw a recording of a race on a wet Silverstone, pure magic.
Human at Sight,
Monster at Heart!

Leimer takes pole by almost a second.
And I hate to sound judgemental but judging by his actions in certain 2012 races and now this, it sounds like Canamasas has several screws loose: http://www.gp2series.com/News-Room/News ... ualifying/

Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Unless I'm very much mistaken, it's the same kid who ignored a black flag for a dozen laps before his car finally broke down in Singapore last year.
And he still has a career.
There was another instance of a driver purposely shoving another one off the track in Malaysian GP2 practise (or quali) and, much like today, the resulting penalty was extremely light in my view. I remember this thought-provoking headline from Autosport: "According to the Sepang stewards, purposely forcing another driver off-track is bad, but not that bad"... you have to wonder whether (why) there is (not) enough emphasis on driving standards in the feeder series.

Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Exactly. It's inexcusable, but what about when we get to Monaco? No room for being stupid there...
Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
When was the Daly/Suranovitch crash? Lucky escape but stuff like that is bound to happen again, and somebody might get hurt.
Actually, a certain Pastor M. found room enough for that last year.No room for being stupid there...

So, Frijns was keen to pick up from where he had left in Barcelona 2012:

Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Indeed. It was a very clumsy move.
Unless the others start getting their act together, Leimer and Coletti will run away with this year's championship. Neither have much hope of making F1 unless they suddenly get a massive sponsorship package together.
Alexander Rossi had a mega race, 3rd on his debut. Sam Bird's start was awesome as well!

Exciting qualy. DAMS lock out the front row right at the end. Will Buxton needs to replace Crofty asap!

Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Fantastic race today. It was disappointing to see some of the driving standards but overall it was an exciting one. Frijns and Nasr did a very good job. Lancaster impressive as well.
Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Yup, it was great. Uncharacteristically mature and clean drive from Frijns amidst all the commotion.
You gotta feel for Dillman. Was looking at gunning for a podium, then got tipped into a spin by that clumsy DAMS driver, worked his way back up to 4th and looked certain to take a stellar 3rd... only to lose it by his own mistake on the final lap. All that after a car flew over his!
I have to agree about the driving standards. Much as I dislike Frijns, his ability to win in just his 2nd weekend not only proves his class, but also highlights the mediocre level of the current field.

I just found out that Nasr's mother is from my city
Re: GP2, GP3, WSbR (F1 Feeder Series Thread) 2013
Ugh, dat last lap.
Collective brain fade? Or the consequence of this year's relative leniency on driving standards?
