Truck Series for now, next stop Sprint Cup?
NOTEBOOK: Raikkonen toying with Cup try?

FT. WORTH, Texas – Naturally, now that Kimi Raikkonen has tested a truck at no less rustic locale than Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga., word is spreading that perhaps the 2007 World Driving Champion might be inclined to give Sprint Cup racing a try this year, too.

Raikkonen will compete in the Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway scheduled for May 20. The winner of 18 Formula One grands prix has been without a ride in that series since 2009. He reportedly completed 400 laps of testing at the Georgia track, a half-mile banked oval, under the watchful eye of Kyle Busch, who has entered a Toyota for Raikkonen in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

In the “truth is stranger than fiction” category, Raikkonen’s sponsor for the race is … Perky Jerky.

Reportedly, Raikkonen is thinking about taking a stab at the Sprint Cup race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on June 26 and perhaps as many as five others. What team is either undetermined or unannounced.

A tweet from jeff_gluck

Kyle Busch says he and Kimi Raikkonen ran identical lap times in the KBM truck on the first day of Raikkonen's test. Sounds impressed.
So its gonna be a mix of Ravishing Black and White for Kimi Raikkonen this season

NASCAR: Räikkönen testing again, could run Cup race at Sonoma

Kimi Raikkonen may run the NASCAR Sprint Cup road-course race at Sonoma, Calif., in June.

By AL PEARCE on 4/07/2011

Just two days after saying Kimi Räikkönen’s recent test in Georgia would be his only NASCAR test this spring, Kyle Busch Motorsports sent the ex-Formula One driver to test again, this time at the one-mile, high-banked Rockingham Speedway in the Sandhills region of North Carolina.

Räikkönen, the 2007 F1 world champion and a current World Rally Championship driver, will make his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series on May 20 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. To prepare for that 200-mile event, KBM had Räikkönen run about 400 laps on Monday and Tuesday at the half-mile, low-banked Gresham Motorsports Park north of Atlanta. At the time, Busch’s staff said it would be Räikkönen’s only test before the Charlotte race.

It’s been suggested that Räikkönen might run not only the Truck Series race at Charlotte, but also the June 26 Sprint Cup road-course race in Sonoma, Calif. He’s allowed to test at Gresham and Rockingham because those tracks don’t host races in any of NASCAR’s top three series.

On Thursday, Todd Hirschfeld of Räikkönen’s organization confirmed the Rockingham test and said, “We are taking this one step at a time regarding any additional races beyond what has been announced.”

Looks like Kimi is really serious about NASCAR if he's going out of his way to hire a marketing company

Ryan McGee ESPN tweeted

Kyle Busch says Kimi Raikkonen was testing at @RockinghamSpeed today, was faster than expected, then jetted off to Jordan for Rally racing.

I have this crazy theory since a few weeks. I begun to think about it because of the lack of stickers on Kimi’s rallying car. If you take a look, the motocross guys have sponsors and Kimi also has, but only on him (Red Bull) nothing on the car.

In the car, it is the IceOne thingy what gets all the attention. I would find it very weird if Kimi Räikkönen could not find even one single sponsor.

My crazy theory is that our boy has finally decided what he wants to be when he grows up: he wants to do of IceOne a brand, maybe like McLaren or maybe something wider with teams in several motorsports.

This Todd Hirschfeld fits into that idea.

Chances that I got it right: 0.1%
