The entry was closed at three o´clock Monday afternoon to the 2011 WRC season opener Rally Sweden. Nearly 130 cars of twenty nationalities were entered when the last accepted one arrived via e-mail. One of the last ones came from Finn Kimi Räikönen whose entry arrived just before 15.00.
Citroën Total Rally Team entered their two French drivers Sébastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier in the new Citroën DS3 WRC and Ford World Rally Team have entered the two fast Finns Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala together with Khalid Al Qassimi from United Arab Emirate in the new Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
A number of new WRC-teams are added to the works teams from Citroën and Ford. In the new ICE 1 Racing WRC team you will find Kimi Räikönnen driving a Citroën DS3 and Petter Solberg WRC Team in a DS3 WRC Citroën number four.
American Ken Block has been entered by Monster World Rally Team in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC and the Dutchman Dennis Kuipers by Ferm Powertools World Rally Team in an identical car.
M-Sport Ford World Rally Team is the two car Ford team entering Norwegian Henning Solberg and English Matthew Wilson also in the new Fiesta based WRC car. Another Norwegian in a Stobart M-Sport Ford Rally Team is Mads Østberg.
Among the PWRC entrants you will find Alexander Villanueva from Spain, Jukka Ketomäki from Finland, in Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and Martin Semerad from Check Republik, in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. The fast Nordic drivers Swede Patrik Flodin and Norwegian Anders Grøndal are driving Subaru Imprezas. Patrik Flodin was last year´s PWRC winner and he must accept being the favorite in PWRC even this year.
The new GT class introduced this season, makes it possible to start with the first Porsche since many years in the World Rally Championship series. Richard Tuthill from Banbury, GB, was the first one to accept the challenge on the icy Swedish roads.

Solberg gets deal in time for Sweden
Petter Solberg will start this year's World Rally Championship in a Citroen DS3 WRC, despite missing the closing date for entries on the first event.
Rally of Sweden entries closed this afternoon, reportedly without an entry from Solberg - but the Norwegian's team manager Ken Rees has confirmed to AUTOSPORT that the former world champion will start the season opener in an all-new DS3.
"We're doing Sweden," Rees said. "It's been a bit hectic, with a lot of telephone calls, but Benoit [Nogier, Citroen Junior Team principal] tells me the entry will be going in for us in the next hour."
Solberg has been battling to raise the cash for this season throughout the winter. He was unavailable for comment as he was finishing his fourth and final day of testing with the Peugeot Sport team - ahead of his Super 2000 debut on next week's Monte Carlo Rally.
"I spoke to Petter earlier," said Rees, "and the test has gone very well. He's had a lot of time in the car and he's very happy with the way things are looking for Monte Carlo. It's going to be a good event for him, then he can focus on Sweden and the new Citroen."
Rally of Sweden clerk of the course Bertil Klarin admitted he would be prepared to hold entries open for Solberg.
Klarin said: "The sport needs Petter and, while we are obliged to get our paperwork started and to get the entry off to the FIA, we would not be the people to close the door on him."

I think he got that one wrong .... they are officially in different teams but it seams ph-sport is managing all the three teams.Kriss wrote:planetemarcus tweeted:

Re: Rally Sweden 2011
One thing I don´t get They say that van Merksteijn isn´t driving because Citroen has just 3 cars so far! But where does Petter get his car from?
Kimi Kimi gimme just a little smile
Re: Rally Sweden 2011
they didnt know peter was entered (they just knew van merksteijn didnt get a car and there was 3 cars entered) so in reality citroen has 4 cars and five drivers and it seems van merksteijn has had in his contract that he is the first one to not get a car if they dont get five ready in time....Claudie_Schnaudie wrote:One thing I don´t get They say that van Merksteijn isn´t driving because Citroen has just 3 cars so far! Rumour that Kimi and Petter have joined up to form "Ice 1 Racing World Rally Team" for 2011. Could be new CJRT. Anyone know anymore?
