Horner says 'no doubt' Webber staying in 2011
Racing series F1

Christian Horner on Saturday played down reports Mark Webber might leave Red Bull after the 2010 season.

After his disparaging comments earlier at Interlagos, Australian Webber had also played down the rumours about his future, but did not entirely rule out the possibility of not driving for the energy drinks-owned team next year.

But team boss Horner told the BBC: "There is no doubt in our minds that Mark will be driving for us next year.

"We've provided him with a great car and lots of support. He's got a contract. Why would he want to be anywhere else?"

It had been suggested that Webber's critical comments in Brazil could have been the final straw for team management, after the 34-year-old driver had also questioned his status within Red Bull Racing earlier in 2010.

But Horner insisted that Webber's latest statements have not changed anything.

"They (the comments) are not held against him and we will give him all the support we can," said the Briton.

Hope he says the truth

^ "His comments are not held against him". This statement is not believable at all. It's one thing if he had said Webber did not mean what he said, he was just pointing out Marko, etc. But, his comments are not held against him? Why not? :p Does that mean his comments are okay, and he can continue to give them? I don't think so.

sackrebleu: OMG, Webber didn't confirm he'll race for Red Bull in 2011. Glock didn't confirm he won't race for Ferarri, let's make a fuss around it! #F1

Horner said that during BBC pre Quali interview, we can't really expect Horner to say anything different in front of millions of TV audience. Somebody had to do the PR talk for the sake of team...

Red Bull says everything is okay in public but still we hear that things are really tense inside the team so it's PR and imagine how hell would break loose if he even dared to say anything negative about Webber :zz:

That's why my sympathies are with Red Bull, they can't do anything else but stay quiet and pretend things are okay there.

Just a thought, would it be weird or not to see him in Red Bull's overalls in F1 or would you already be used to them by now?
Off-Topic: show

Only Ferrari implied all the time that Kimi's seat was rocky - do you remember the confusion and wondering over what is going on, Kimi has a contract and these talks go on and on?

I still respect what Kimi replied to the reporters over and over again:

"I have a contract with Ferrari for 2010 and I have always respected contracts."

Now thinking about it he actually had a dig at Ferrari

well some people here has to remind this as well...everytime horner or some other rbr guy say something they believe it...in F1 it's only truth when officialy confirmed...Kimi didn't confirm anything...

And it was mateschitz who was a great admirer of Kimi...can't believe that he didn't put pressure on Kimi..."Kimi do you wanna rally?" .... "Yeah I want that really much".... "ok Kimi you can but first you need to be F1 WDC in my car"...."mumble mumble mumble ok..."

Just like everything Mark says is believed in an instant... Some people got fed up with me for not believing Alonso will come to Ferrari in 2010 and they didn't understand my point: I will believe it the minute it's announced but I refuse to blindly believe in just rumours.

It's not about me not accepting it, it's against my principles to believe in a rumour.

One million flies can be wrong

You have a good point there, Spinster. How on earth did Mateschitz let Kimi make up the contract and go to rally???

Turrini wrote after the press conference that it's obvious that Mark and Seb hate each other very much.

But everything is a-okay :zz:

Sounds like Senna & Prost (ok - they had a very special stance to each other and I think that they had two way respection). Maybe Ham and Lonso are better team mates to compare this situation.

But where does Webber’s relationship with the team – Red Bull – go from here? (Ie in 2011.)
Retirement, irrelevant of if he wins the WDC or not?
I’m not sure the 2011 Red Bull will be a place that he wants to be. Either they will *really* make sure he is not in the hunt, or they won’t let him defend his championship. Tricky.
Neil.

I can’t see how he can stay, the way things are. And next year would be the same as this. But what are his alternatives?

well Marko said today that Mark and Seb don't really talk with eachother and that they try to control it. they had/will have a talk today or tomorrow before the race.
I just hope they will not do something stupid in the race :fear:

Hey, I just translated a very interesting article Heikki Kulta wrote. I'll put it here and on the F1-side soon. Worth reading :)

It's in Kulta's WRC-thread but very interesting when thinking of 2007...
