Erm, what planetmarcus says is wrong. In the article he links it’s said that Dani signing with Mini has been postponed until January, because of the contractual issues he has with Citroën. It's nowhere written that he has signed. I think his google-translator got it wrong.

New season – new cars

Image

We have just finished the 2010 season, with a great result for PSWRT, but the 2011 season is not far away. Along with the new season are also new cars. The WRC car as we know it today is history, a brand new car is waiting.

The most important change is that we will go from todays 2 ltr engine and to a 1,6 ltr engine and the restrictor goes from 34 mm to 33 mm. Gear box design will be the same for all the cars and they will not have a centre differential. The car it self can be smaller; 3,9 mtrs instead of 4,2 mtrs. Minimum weight changes from 1230kg til 1200kg. Engine, elecronics and transmission will be cheaper, as there will be a single supplier approved by the FIA, with limited pricing. The use of carbon fibre will also be restricted. Michelin or DMACK will be the new tyre suppliers.

All the changes are made as a part of cutting costs and get more manufacturers and cars into the championship. Citroën brings along its new DS3, Ford a new Fiesta and MINI joins as a new manufacturer. Hopefully there will be even more manufacturers in the next few years.

What car Petter Solberg will drive in the 2011 championship is not decided yet. The first event is Rally Sweden, 10 – 13 February 2011.

Oliveira linked to MINI WRC drive

17th December 2010
By Charlie Contadeli

One of the first customer versions of MINI’s Countryman WRC could go to Brazilian rookie Daniel Oliveira, Maxrally understands.

Although no confirmation has been forthcoming, Oliveira could make his debut in the car as early as Rally de Portugal in late March ahead of an expanded programme of world championship events.

The 25-year-old was a regular in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge this season recording a points finish on his home event, Rallye Internacional de Curitiba in March.

However, the bulk of his campaign was blighted by several crashes, including a high-speed off on the Ypres Rally, which left his co-driver Carlos del Barrio with fractured ribs.

Oliveira will has recruited Portuguese Carlos Magalhaes to co-drive him in 2011. The pair competed together for the first time on Rally of Scotland in October and finished third on the final round of the Argentine championship last weekend in a Subaru Impreza.

BRASILEIRO TEAM TO CHOOSE THE MINI MINI for WRC

The newly created Brazil World Rally Team, will participate in the World Rally Championship 2011 on board the MINI. The new team will compete first with the Super Production MINI then move later to the MINI WRC championship.

The car will be driven by the Brazilian driver, Daniel Oliveira, who at 25 years has competed in nine events in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). In 2011 Daniel will be joined in the co-driver seat by the experienced Portuguese navigator, Carlos Magalhaes.

Carlos Daniel and recently culminated in 2011 with a historic 3er.lugar in general for the last date of the Argentine Rally Championship, behind Federico Villagra Champion and former World Champion Group N, Gabriel Pozzo.

Argentine Rally Championship is probably the most competitive in America, and one of the hardest in the world. Unquillo Rally, the binomial Oliveira / Magalhaes to succeed in one of the most difficult stretches of the race, the first time in 20 years, a Brazilian pilot accomplishes this feat.

Prodrive will provide the team with Super MINI and the Production MINI, likewise, the famous English team will be responsible for conducting the WORLD RALLY TEAM BRAZIL during 2011, providing all relevant technical and logistic support. The team will debut in March, during the Rally Portugal and will compete in the WRC next 10 dates.

During the month of November, Oliveira had the opportunity to test the New MINI next to the official WRC driver Kris Meeke on the grounds of Prodrive in Warwickshire.

The Brazil WRC Team will be among the first to compete with the Super Production MINI, while the MINI WRC will make its debut with the WRC MINI Team and Oliveira later.

There was an interview with Dani Sordo today in Cadena Ser (radio). He was trapped in an airport in France trying to make it back to Spain after attending yesterday evening to Citroën’s Christmas dinner. He confirmed the contract with Mini has not been signed yet, but he says there’s a 95% chance he will do it.

Wonder whether Kimi has been there as well

Well it would really surprise me if Sordo doesn´t drive a MINI next year

It's possible. But Dani didn't go into the details. Pity, it would have been nice to fire the rumours again :p

He was talking like this: “By Mini, I will blah, blah and I will blah, blah”. But then he remembered that he’s still a Citroën employee and said the deal was not signed yet.

Ford enjoys positive test

20 Dec 10

Ford World Rally Team technical director Christian Loriaux has described the squad’s five-day test in Sweden last week as “positive”.

Drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala covered approximately 1250 kilometres in a development version of Ford’s all-new Fiesta RS World Rally Car during the test near Kall, which is a popular testing venue in the country.

Latvala ran on Monday and Tuesday with fellow Finn Hirvonen taking over from Wednesday until the end of Friday when the team returned to its base in the United Kingdom.

Loriaux said: “We can’t speak too much about the car because of the embargo [restrictions] but we managed about 250 kilometres each day. There are a few things we would like to improve, which is always the case, but it was a positive test and the drivers are quite happy. The roads Jari used were not so good although they were better for Mikko.

“The problem we have, though, is knowing where we will be compared to our rivals and we won’t get to know that until the first stage in Sweden. We can’t compare the Fiesta to the Focus because they are completely different cars running to completely different regulations.”

Ford’s test in Sweden follows on from a four-day session on gravel roads in Portugal earlier this month. The team is not due to test again until later in January when it returns to Sweden to complete its final preparations for Rally Sweden, the opening round of the World Rally Championship, which is based in Karlstad from February 10-13.

Despite taking a break from testing for a few weeks, Loriaux said there would be no let up in the team’s workload ahead of the 2011 campaign.

“It’s going to be quite a rush because our aim is to get 10 cars ready for Sweden,” said Loriaux, “and there are still a few things we’d like to iron out on the car. We’ve also got the homologation inspection coming up so we’re quite busy with that and preparing for the next test in Sweden.”

And we all thought Red Bull does not want to invest more in any other sport than F1.:

Škoda and Red Bull team up to appear in S-WRC

The Red Bull Škoda team is a result of joint efforts by Škoda Motorsport (factory team), Baumschlager Rally Racing (BRR) (private team) and Red Bull.

Shortly after winning this year's IRC, Škoda has made another big step forward by becoming part of Red Bull Škoda, a new team based on the brand's partnership with the top-class company Red Bull and its liaison with the private team BRR. Both of the new team's crews, the IRC champions Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula of Finland and Germany's young hope Hermann Gassner jr. & Katharina Wüstenhagen, are going to appear in the 2011 S-WRC.

Head of Škoda Motorsport Michal Hrabánek says: “We are really pleased that we can contribute to further growth of the Fabia Super 2000 project as part of Red Bull and BRR. Red Bull is one of the strongest possible partners on today's sports scene. The BRR team led by Raimund Baumschlager, a nine-times Austrian Rally Champion and the buyer of the first Fabia Super 2000 vehicle we sold, is a guarantee of a highly professional approach and top-class background.“

Now we know why Baumschlager badmouthed Kimi. He needed to convince RB, that it's better to sponsor his S-WRC team.
By the way RB was happy with Team Citroen, so they were to stay anyway.
