Have to confess that I sometimes pop in on the rallyforums but "traditional rally fans" seem to bee quite negative and skeptical to almost everything new (... and current way of doing things) so I have started to take the comments on those forums with a pinch of salt... I just go to them to find news
sorry for my little outburst ...
I like this forum so much more than traditional rally/motor racing forums because in other forums, all they seem to care about is bashing the drivers and moaning about everything. And if you have a different opinion from someone, it's the worst thing in the world because they will keep trying to argue and argue until you see things THEIR way.

here from the forum (bleu) how it workt last time:Claudie_Schnaudie wrote:read this at the autosport forumJulia wrote:did they say why it didn't work out last time?? was it on some forum or news?Claudie_Schnaudie wrote:I read that they already once tried that out but it didn´t work! so maybe reconsidering the rules a little bit ...1999 they had two races (Corsica, Finland) with final stage giving points. 3-2-1 for top three finishers. That time it meant that winning one stage was worth the same as fourth place in whole race. Also, retired factory drivers were allowed in, so in Finland Auriol was withdrawn from the race early in the Sunday morning (he was somewhere far away from the points) so they could put his car in better condition for the final stage, which he then won. He won the first one as well, Tommi Mäkinen was second in both.
I know that the idea sound a little bit artificial but they need something spectacular to show on the tv and they need to bring the rally also to the city, to atract new people to the sport. Remember the mega streetshow they had in Portugal the weekend before the rally. A street-SS built in the middle of the town, 40 000 people gathered to follow the cars putting of a show, a speaker who is very enthusiastic telling what is happening and as a cherry on the cake if the top guys would actually race against each other and not just cruising around what would be better PR?
So if somebody sees it on the television or on the place and get interested in rally maybe next time they have the currage to go to the woods and follow real rally stages.... when they know what it is all about.

Re: Rally News
When point system is changed, some points could give more easier than last time. Now three points are less equal for top drivers but could give more trying and pace to last stage.
I miss a babysitter
Re: Rally News
they where thinking of giving 5 points to the winner of the stage to motivate them to try to catch those points and with this years point system the eight gets 4 points and the pointgap between the winner and second is 7 points, so it sounds reasonable. But I think the big problem last time was the rule that everybody could compete and that somebody whit draws himself from the race to put the car in shape and win the ss... so maybe only for them who is jet in the race?Moominpappa wrote:When point system is changed, some points could give more easier than last time. The DS3 R3 conquers France!
Once more, the DS3 R3 was the star of the show when Citroën Racing’s new baby headed off to France and the specialised roads of the Rallye du Mont Blanc for only its second competitive outing. The event was a resounding success: the DS3 R3 was the quickest two-wheel drive car, claiming Group R victory, and it also finished a brilliant 11th overall.
All eyes were on the DS3 R3 at the mountain roads around Morzine in the southeast of France this weekend. The new car was the subject of intense discussion, but it had to face several more powerful rivals who were equally determined to make their mark. Nonetheless, the DS3 was able to once again underline its performance and prove its versatility on stages that were completely different to the conditions experienced on its recent debut in Ireland.
The 62nd running of the rally benefited from glorious sunshine that lit up the spectacular alpine scenery around Mont Blanc. With the crew of Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle at the wheel, the DS3 R3 laid down a marker by setting fastest time in the class on the 12-kilometre Montriond le Lac stage. Building up its pace gradually, the DS3 R3 lay third in Group R at the end of the first morning’s loop of stages. In the afternoon the crew stepped up a gear and strung together several fastest stage times. By the end of day one, the car was leading the two-wheel drive category: a position it was to maintain all the way to the finish. On Saturday, Meeke continued in a similar vein – setting increasingly rapid stage times to extend the gap to his rivals, while gaining places in the overall classification. The DS3 R3 set its ninth fastest stage time on the fearsome Samoëns-Joux Plane stage before concluding a perfect rally that placed the crew on the top step of the Group R podium.
Frédéric Bertrand, in charge of Citroën Racing’s customer competition department, said: “The DS3 R3 has been born well, taking two wins from its first two events. Kris drove a fantastic rally. He showed that the car was competitive and reliable, even though our rivals were once again of the highest standard on this fifth round of the French Rally Championship. We made some changes to the suspension set-up and the brakes, so we’re looking forward to see how the DS3 R3 performs on gravel, as well as on Italian asphalt at the Sanremo Rally.”

Re: Rally News
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/86469WRC adds bonus points for TV stages
By Matt Beer Wednesday, September 8th 2010, 12:57 GMT
Each round of the 2011 World Rally Championship will offer bonus points for the three fastest drivers on a single televised stage, the FIA has announced.
In a new measure agreed at today's World Motor Sport Council meeting, the top three on the selected stage with receive three, two and one additional points respectively.
"Commencing 2011 each World Rally Championship (WRC) event must include one special stage on the final day for the purpose of enhancing television coverage," said an FIA statement.
"The fastest drivers and co-drivers will be awarded additional points (3-2-1) in accordance with the general classification of this stage."
A similar system was previously tried in 1999, when several rallies awarded bonus points for a live TV stage.
In other WRC changes agreed by the WMSC, next year cars will take to stages just one minute apart rather than the two or three minute gaps currently used for the WRC field, and top teams will only be allowed to use two engines per car from round five of the 2011 championship onwards.
The FIA has also announced the creation of a two-wheel-drive category with the Production class, that it will look into adding GT cars to WRC events, and that a new young driver academy programme will be created.

http://www.rallybuzz.com/wrc-wmsc-september-2010/WRC: World Motor Sport Council decisions
At an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 8 September 2010, the following decisions were taken:
WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
Commencing 2011 each World Rally Championship (WRC) event must include one special stage on the final day for the purpose of enhancing television coverage. The fastest drivers and co-drivers will be awarded additional points (3-2-1) in accordance with the general classification of this stage.
An FIA Production Car Cup for drivers of 2WD cars entered in the Production Car World Rally Championship (PWRC) will be introduced in 2011 to encourage competitors in Group R cars. At each round of the PWRC, a separate classification will be produced for the drivers of 2WD cars and points allocated according to the same scale as the Championship. The Production Car Cup will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points. As entrants in the PWRC, drivers of 2WD cars must nominate their events from a list and can score points in both the PWRC and Production Car Cup.
From 2011, cars eligible to contest the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship must have a normally aspirated engine with a cylinder capacity of less than 2000cc. There will be no FIA WRC Cup from 2011.
After the fourth event in the 2011 WRC calendar, Manufacturer and WRC Teams are permitted to use a maximum of two engines per car for the remaining nine events.
Commencing from 2011, all cars will start special stages at one-minute intervals, to increase interest for spectators.
From 2011, Priority 2 drivers who have contested more than two consecutive rounds of the World Rally Championship will be awarded Priority 1 status for the remainder of the season. These drivers must then comply with the regulations pertaining to WRC Teams.
A specialist group representing interested parties will review the possibility of introducing GT cars to WRC events.
The FIA in association with the WRC promoter will establish an Academy for young drivers.

MINI's new Countryman World Rally Car has turned its wheels in anger for the first time - successfully completing a shakedown test at Prodrive's private proving ground in the UK.
This initial part of the car’s test and development programme took place with team engineers driving the car over four days, primarily on tarmac, but also for several kilometres on loose surfaces.
The car will now travel to Portugal for a week of testing on gravel.
“As with any totally new car, it is vital to take time to ensure all the systems are working as intended before embarking on a week long gravel test,” said David Lapworth, Prodrive’s technical director.
The test MINI, sporting yellow camouflaged paintwork, is fitted with an interim body and aero package, while design of the final World Rally Car bodywork is underway.

Re: Rally News
interesting comments on minis next year driver:
the guy seems to be a nice young chap... and interesting that they seem to be negotiating with a potential big/main sponsor (who is backing up him) like Red Bull and Abu Dhabi is for ford and citroen. It would be very good to have a new big sponsor in rally.
so when this is official witch off the three rumors: grönholm, andersson, meeke is not true?
...and if adapta would have a satellite team it would be 2 more persons driving in the future.
http://www.rallybuzz.com/mads-ostberg-mini-wrc-essais/Ostberg tested Mini Countryman WRC
Mads Ostberg was the driver who was testing the new Mini Countryman WRC for the first time on gravel yesterday.
"The car is completely new, and it was absolutely the first time it was on gravel," said Ostberg. "It is not possible to do a review or give comments based on that, but it is a very exciting car, no doubt. And I think it's great to be the first rally driver to drive the car."
"The team is pleased that Mads had the honour of being first," commented Prodrive team manager David Campion, who followed Mads on yesterday's maiden voyage."We have received a proposal which, if we accept it, will place Mads in the Mini factory team next year. But there are important negotiations etc., before an agreement can come into place. There is nevertheless the historical fact that Mads was the first who tested the car on gravel. It will stand on his CV for ever."
It is part of the offer that Mads will be participate in the Mini's test programme to help develop the car for the WRC next year. But before he gets more testing with the Mini, Mads will end the season with a hectic program: Rally Sarema in Estonia, which is the finale of the FIA's Northern European Rallycup, and Wales Rally GB with the Subaru Impreza WRC. He will also contest Rally France with Ford and M-Sport in the S-WRC.
Meanwhile, the Adapta World Rally Team is having talks with Prodrive about a possible future role as a satellite team for the Mini World Rally Team, with one or two drivers. A partnership will also mean that Adapta will represent Prodrive and Mini sales and operation of the rally cars in Scandinavia.

Re: Rally News
Marcus Gronholm will test with Mini first to decide whether he wants to make a comeback.
It was actually kind of funny, Neil Cole asked Gronholm at Rally Finland whether he can actually fit inside a Mini
I know Loeb is not exactly a big guy, but look at Gronholm!
