Loeb to join GP2 test at Jerez
Spoiler:
29 September 2009

Multiple World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb will be joining the official GP2 test in Spain at the start of next month, it has been confirmed. The French Citroën driver will run for David Price Racing at Jerez with a possible race on the cards in Abu Dhabi in just over a month's time.

Having tested a Formula One car with Red Bull Racing last year, Loeb will now drive a GP2 machine for the first time as the official session test gets underway at Jerez from Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 October.

"One of the engineers I met during my participation in the Porsche Carrera Cup at Nogaro suggested that I drive in this GP2 test," Loeb - WRC Champion of 2004-2008 - commented. "He knows that I love driving challenges and told me that there was a place available in the DPR team."

It makes for a busy schedule for Sébastien, who will be testing his C4 rally car in England the day before. He is also believed to be keeping options open should a one-off Formula One drive become a possibility between rallies next year.

Jerez Day 2: Van der Garde moves ahead
Spoiler:
Giedo van der Garde moved to the top of the timesheets as testing continued at Jerez on Wednesday. On his first appearance for Barwa Addax, having raced with iSport throughout the season, the Dutchman led the way from Alberto Valerio's Coloni with Toyota F1 test driver Kamui Kobayashi back from Japan to complete the top three for Racing Engineering.

Morning session

This morning's cooler temperatures improved both track conditions and lap times in Jerez de la Frontera. The second day of GP2 Series winter testing saw a shuffle on the grid as only nine drivers ran in the same car as they did yesterday, namely Oliver Turvey (iSport), Luiz Razia (Piquet GP), Rodolfo Gonzalez (Arden), Ricardo Teixeira and James Jakes (Super Nova), Sam Bird (DAMS), Francesco Castellacci (Durango), Philip Eng (Ocean Racing) and Michael Herck (DPR).

Ten new racers entered the entry list for today's session with some names well-known to the GP2 circus (Kamui Kobayashi, Dani Clos and Alberto Valerio) and some rookies (Marcus Ericsson, Sten Pentus, Jan Charouz, Filip Salaquarda, William Bratt, Fabio Leimer and Vladimir Arabadzhiev).

But it was the more experienced drivers who set the pace this morning, lead by Giedo van der Garde at Barwa Addax Team clocking in the best lap time of a 1:25.291 and over a tenth clear of Valerio driving for Party Poker Racing.com SC. Behind the pair, Kobayashi - freshly back from running with Toyota F1 in Suzuka last Friday during Formula One Practice sessions 1 and 2, at the wheel of Fat Burner Racing Engineering was also in good form and completed the Top three.

Afternoon session

Once again, the temperature rose in Spain in the afternoon and this morning's lap times could not be improved. In a trouble free session, Kobayashi at Racing Engineering topped the times two tenths ahead of Jérôme d'Ambrosio who joined ART Grand Prix today and five tenths clear of this morning's quickest man on track van der Garde. The Dutch tops the combined times for the day.

With a lap time of a 1:25.575 set this morning, German Christian Vietoris at DAMS was the fastest rookie of the day.

The three-day test session will conclude tomorrow with five times Rally World Champion Sébastien Loeb joining DPR.

Not sure about Bianchi, but I really hope Giedo gets the seat at Barwa Addax, he says that car perfectly suits his driving style and the team was very happy with the feedback he gave and the times he drove.

Bianchi for ART
di Grassi stays at Fat Burner with Clos

Loeb slowest for DPR

Quote:
Marcus Ericsson set the fastest time of the final day of this week's GP2 testing at Jerez, while Sebastien Loeb was slowest on his category debut.

Ericsson, who won this year's Japanese Formula 3 title, was 13th quickest yesterday for iSport before switching to ART today and setting the best time of the afternoon.

Dani Clos had set the best time of the wet morning session for Racing Engineering, but the times improved by nearly three seconds in the afternoon as the track dried.

Loeb was 18th in the morning driving for DPR, but the five-time World Rally champion slipped back to 25th and last in the afternoon session.

Clos finished the day second fastest to Ericsson, with International Formula Master champion Fabio Leimer third. GP2 regulars Jerome D'Ambrosio and Luiz Razia were fourth and fifth, with Marco Bonanomi completing the top six.

Oliver Turvey was the third fastest rookie in seventh, ahead of Davide Valsecchi, Alexander Rossi and Roldan Rodriguez.

Bruno Senna was 14th quickest on his return to the series with iSport.

Racing Engineering to welcome six drivers at Paul Ricard
Spoiler:
07 November 2009

Spanish GP2 team Fat Burner Racing Engineering will see a total of six different drivers at next week's three-day test at Paul Ricard. The team will use the test in France to evaluate the possible candidates for the GP2 main series in 2010.

During the three days test, which will start on the 10th of November and conclude on Thursday, the 12th, the Spanish Team will run Christian Vietoris, Fabio Leimer, Roldán Rodríguez, Charles Pic, Jérôme d'Ambrosio and Sam Bird at the wheel of its two Dallara GP2 cars.

German Christian Vietoris and Swiss Fabio Leimer will share duties during the first test day at the French track. Runner-up of this year's Formula 3 Euro Series, the 20 years-old German made his debut in GP2 competing in the 2009 GP2 Asia Series in Abu-Dhabi, where he won the sprint race. For Fabio Leimer, International Formula Master's reigning champion, this test will represent a chance to show his skills to Fat Burner Racing Engineering after celebrating his debut in GP2 Asia Series' race in Abu Dhabi, like Vietoris.

The Spanish team will work with Roldán Rodríguez and Charles Pic for the second test day at the Paul Ricard circuit. Roldán Rodríguez is no stranger to the Series and Fat Burner Racing Engineering after participating in the GP2 Championship during the last three seasons and testing with the Spanish outfit at the last collective test at Jerez, where the Spaniard set very competitive times. French born Charles Pic, on the other had, just made his GP2 debut in Abu-Dhabi as well, after finishing the 2009 World Series by Renault in third place.

The last test day, which will also mark the end of the 2009 GP2 Main Series season, will see the English driver Sam Bird and Belgian Jérôme d'Ambrosio showing their strengths and skills at the wheel of the two Fat Burner Racing Engineering cars. The 22 years-old English driver, who was Williams F1 Team test driver in 2007, finished fifth in this year's Formula 3 Euro Series Championship. He also competed in both the British Formula 3 Championship and Tango Masters of Formula 3. For Jerome D'Ambrosio this will be his second opportunity in little more than a month to shine and impress at the steering wheel of the Spanish team, having driven one of the red cars during the Jerez test in October.
