Formula 1 season 2008 *REVIEWING*

Post by Haukinen » 03 Nov 2008, 13:27

[mod]Discuss about 2008 Formula 1 Season!
Drama, Action, controversy, scandal ...go go ...!!![/mod]

Original Message:
Spoiler:
At the end of the season, rate the season 2008 with these:

Driver of the year
No doubt: Sebastian Vettel. Unbelievable pole and victory at Monza and good battle with Hamilton in Brazil.
This young man is going to be the ''next schumacher''!

Team of the year
Do I even need to say it? Two words: TORO ROSSO. At the end of the season, very good results started to came from Valencia and continued all the way to Brazil. Toro Rosso collected more points that Red Bull Racing!

Best race
The season finale in Brazil. Best race I have ever seen! The championship wasn't clear before the last curve!

Most disapointing race
Belgium 2008, when Kimi hit the wall 2 laps before finish

Most spectacular crash
Timo Glock's airborne at Australia

Best overtake
Brazil 2008, when Hamilton overtaked Timo Glock, and took the championship!

Worst driver/team
Adrian Sutil/Honda

Best moment
The last laps of Brazil...

Look at Toro Rosso, they were my favourite team for most of 2008.They could be the last of the low budget success stories in 2009.I don't expect much for them in 2009.But what a season, how many truly great races did we have? Half a dozen atleast. And we discovered in Kubica and Vettel how good they are,and how they're 2 future champions

Honda's statistics are shocking: 28m per point is simply dreadful.

Honda and Toyota show that money isn't everything in Formula 1, especially when you look at Toro Rosso. Well, that's an interesting stat, thanks Zack!

Does anyone have an answer, why F1 became so horribly expensive over the last decade? Team Budgets have almost doubled since 97, although engine development is banned, testing is limited, engines have to last 2 races, no tyre war and so on. I don´t understand it. No wonder they´re trying to save money and cut the costs. It´s really a shame, in the mid 90´s F1 was much cheaper, but also there was much more freedom for the teams, unlimited testing, unlimited spare part use, unlimited engine use, free choice of v8,v10 or v12 and so on.
Very sad development in my oppinion.

Problem were sp. Ferrari & Mclaren :p as Global Economy progressed inversely Brand Value increased and More Money came in from the sponsors .. so they had more disposable money like sponsors! ..that's the way i think it all started! to keep with competition rest of the Teams kept burning their pockets....On the way we lost few teams.Expenditure $$$ Figure never descended sharply.

Over valuation of drivers :laugh1:

Classic example from klien :laugh1:
MW Sauber test driver Christian Klien has dismissed as "unnecessary" some of the expenditure in Formula One.

"Perhaps too much money is wasted," the Austrian, who last season tested with the Honda team, said in interview with the newspaper Kurier.

"Take Jenson Button: he uses 18 helmets per season and every one costs 6,000 euros before the paint," he cited as an example.

"I ask myself if this is necessary," said Klien.

2008 season: 20 seconds to go and we didn`t knew who the WC was....This sums it up. Drivers: Vettel confirmed he`s really special, Hamilton has done well, Alonso was brilliant, Kimi was awful, Kubica almost destroyed Heidfeld
Teams: Personaly, Renault was THE team of this season for their evolution, Ferrari had a positive season winning the WCC and loosin the WD by 1 point it cant be considered a failure, T.Rosso was outstanding and finally Mclaren: when only one car is taking serious attention it cant be considered a real team.

Looking further-2009- Curiousity about the new cars, new tyres, how BMW and Renault will be against the others, the possibility of B.Senna driving a F1 car and i cant wait to see what problems heikki`s car will have in races.

its one of he midfield runners who do many overtakings. Because there the midfield is very pack and if you just lose a few tenths in quali then you ends up way back. The only race where Hamilton overtook was in italy where he did terrible at quali.

Okay, then who? Please tell me, I'm anxious to know... Hamilton overtook 8 in Monza, at least 3 in Hockenheim, 3 in Silverstone, again a few in France, Massa in Turkey... and so on... I'm convinced Hamilton won the overtaking-cup :p :laugh1:
