According to what the trend has been this season, in terms of weather it looks like Mclaren should be strong on
sunday.
on every wet track or low temps this year the MP4-23 have dominated. I look foward to seing that repeated.
however I myself feel somthing bad is going to take place, and I don't really know what it could be. it almost feels
like the top 3 drivers are going to take each other out. the suprise winner could well be KOVI, SLOBLOZO, OR KuBICa

Monza may very be the only track where the practice time's actually lead to a good qualifying and race finish :D

Yep, Renault WILL suck here, Monza is so much about raw engine power and we all know Renault is sadly lacking in that department. BMW, Ferrari and Mercedes have the strongest engines and they will do well, that also includes - relatively speaking - Toro Rosso & Force India with their Ferrari engines.

Though I still hope for a miracle: rain, grasshopper swarms, whatever....

just some comment about friday free practice 1 and 2
FP1: was a real mess, not much conclusion can be taken rather then between the guys the made together few lap Force India (ferrari engine)
was on top not only in time board but also with speed trap (the performance of sutil was actually very good also in FP2).
Also notice a quite good step forward of honda (even if wet condition)

FP2: let's start with the guys that made more lap: Bourdaias 39, Vettel 35, Massa 34, Button 34, Rosberg 34, Raikonen 31
in terms of speed trap we have Hamilton 346.8 kmh
kovalainen 344.8 kmh
then the 2 BMW around 343 and the 2 ferrari around 341
we can see how hamilton was defenitely low on downforce.
This is also very much visible on the time table board were the 3 team locked 7 position, with only rosberg placing himself in between the top 3 team.

Force India and STR with ferrari engine well impress, on the other hands Renault and Toyota are bottom with struggle not only in engine, but especially in breaking and traction.

its not all about top speed :O

Ferrari's configuration for Monza

1 Obviously Monza is known for its very low downforce settings. Looking at the nose and frontwing we see that...
A ...the middle section has been raised a lot.
B ...there is no hole in the nose.
C ...the surface area of the second plane towards the sides has been reduced.

2 As for the rearwing, we note that...
A ...it still comprises of two elements (McLaren has a one element-rear wing).
B ...the main element is asymmetric: the right part has a greater surface...
C ...compared to the left surface (shorter) because at Monza there are almost only right hand corners.

3 Aerodynamical bits and pieces are set-up/modified (like winglets and flip-ups) to the particular requirements of the circuit. Others (such as the midwing, anvil wing and beamwing) are taken off as a whole.

4 There's a big strain on the engine since a high percentage of a lap around the circuit is being driven at full throttle. Having a strong engine is crucial.

5 With the highest speeds reached on the calender, the brakes are inevitably put to the test also. The cooling ducts are likely to be bigger than usual.

Thanks zack , Autosport explains that They(Ferrari) ran the shields in qualifying with smaller (than the opposition) brake ducts ie less drag, and then removed them when they could (first tyre change) to increase the cooling to the brakes. Autosports comments are that this gave the Ferrari's a top speed advantage over the McLaren's, as evidenced by the speed-traps.

If it rains as heavily as in FP1, Quali will be postponed until later or Sunday morning.

it's not as bad though.

And, as ITV doesn't show FP3, anyone got a stream?
