Canadian Grand Prix officials have decided that the tarmac at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit needs resurfacing at certain places. Drivers expressed their concern about the poor state of the surface at the hairpin and with a 70-lap race on Sunday, chaos could be inevitable.



According to Canadian GP executive officer Francois Dumontier, the problems should be solved in time for the race. "This year we chose a new specialist to settle the issue, but obviously conditions related to the technological evolution of the race cars do create some problems", he said. "Aggressive adhesion of grooved tyres, removal of traction control systems and the actual physical configuration of the hairpin corner itself could all be probable causes for this situation."

"We will correct this problem as soon as the last car leaves the track today, and everything will be rectified for tomorrow's races."

whats the weather like at canada at the moment-read in autosport that its going to be stormy weather but i got it late(yesterday) so things have probally changed-its also said qual was rainy but was sunshine

Has anyone notice how hamilton seemed so full of himself in the last interview he gave?

Something like: "I don't worry about the race. i'm the fastest here only if some SC doesn't give me problems..."

Anyways, what's up with Canada? i mean don't they know how to lay a bit of tarmac on the road, or did they want to safe a couple of $ ??

And resurfacing overnight??? after you do something like that at home you have to wait a day or 2... and that's with a lame car... what's going to happen when a F1 passes on that??

I do.That's the sort of explanation you see from politicians to describe their mistakes.And how are you going to resurface a track in 1 day? With a broken track and "Possible Thunderstorms" (That's the weather forecast) there could be total chaos

Subsequently, a number of repairs were carried overnight including the resurfacing of the hairpin, leaving Dumontier confident that conditions will be fine for today's event.

It is not the first time there have been problems with the Montreal track surface, however, after a problem during a stock car event in 2007, sections of the track were patched up with a product called SR2000, which had been recommended by NASCAR.

"We're really confident that this product will hold," said Dumontier at the time. "At least the track won't disintegrate with this product."

Try telling that to Kimi Raikkonen. "It's the same as it's been the last three or four years," said the Finn, who won here in 2005 with McLaren. "It always breaks down and they always promise to fix it. Maybe they should send someone in from somewhere else to fix the circuit.

"I can't understand how things like this can happen," added the World Champion. "Maybe it's the higher temperatures, or a repair job at this point not done properly, but one thing is certain: In the race tomorrow, it will be very difficult to get through there. It's going to be a nightmare because the circuit breaks up after only two laps."

As if this wasn't bad enough, forecasters are still predicting a 60percent chance of rain, possibly even a thunderstorm.
