Grand Prix History
Wikipedia wrote:he nine World Championship Malaysian Grands Prix have seen a good deal of action on and off the track, whilst the weather — furnace heat one minute, tropical storm the next — adds extra spice. The most notable Grand Prix at Sepang to date was the inaugural event in 1999. It saw Michael Schumacher return to the sport after his absence due to a broken leg sustained at that year's British Grand Prix, dominating the race and handing the victory to title-hopeful team-mate Eddie Irvine, only for both Ferraris to be disqualified due to a technical irregularity, handing the title — until the steward's decision was over-ruled — to Mika Häkkinen.

The 2001 event was hit by a heavy rainstorm in the middle of the race which made conditions very difficult. Conditions were so bad that the two Ferraris of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello spun off almost simultaneously at the same corner. Remarkably, they both recovered to score a Ferrari "1-2", because for a long time they were nearly 5 seconds fastar than anyone else on the field. Elsewhere, the race was even lead by Jos Verstappen, surprisingly. However, as the track begun to dry, he fell back to 7th, but his efforts to keep positions were memorable.

Since 2001, the Malaysian Grand Prix has moved from the end of the schedule to the beginning, which has seen some topsy-turvy results as teams and drivers get to grips with their new equipment, with many races heavily influenced by the winners and losers of the scramble for position into the tight double hairpin bend at the first corner.

On April 8, 2007, shortly before the 2007 Malaysian Grand Prix, Formula One president Bernie Ecclestone was quoted in stating that the circuit was getting "shabby" and "a bit tired" from the lack of care, describing it as "an old house that needs a bit of redecorating". He noted that the circuit itself is not the issue, but rather the surrounding environ; rubbish is said to be littered all over the place, potentially damaging the circuit's good reputation when it was opened in 1999.

The day before, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had met Ecclestone to discuss an extension of the Formula One contract beyond 2010. While the government had been given an additional extension to host the Grand Prix until 2015, the government was still mulling the offer, as of April 23, 2007.[2] The circuit was given a renewed contract in 2006 to organise the Malaysian Grand Prix for another five years..

Will Ferrari dominate here, or will we see a repeat of their abysmal Melbourne form?

Will the miraculous McLarens become bulletproof this season once again?

Will Sebastian Bourdais actually score some points and have some luck on his side?

So many questions!

Last years results:

1st. Fernando Alonso (WILL THIS BE REPEATED? :nosweat: )
2nd. Lewis Hamilton
3rd. Kimi Raikkonen

--------

Two things only are for sure, we're in for a competitive race and there are going to me more than 3 retirements this year!

Will Ferrari dominate here, or will we see a repeat of their abysmal Melbourne form?
<greenspanz> I dont think so. I think with traction and launch control no longer been permitted - Ferrarri would be affected.

Will the miraculous McLarens become bulletproof this season once again?
<greenspanz> Yes - I think so.

My take on the results:

1. Hamilton
2. Raikonnen
3. Barrichello

Well, Kuala Lumpur isn't a good track for Ferrari. But as there is no traction control these young guns like Hamilton, Kovalainen etc. will have more problems in bahrain. Kimi knows how to drive without those features, as well as he never liked it. So he is my favorite for Kuala Lumpur.

1. Kimi Raikönnen
2. Louise Hamilton
3. Felippe Massa

5. Fernando Alonso

massa has never really been strong here but if the australian GP is anything to go by, there is no way i could predict a top three.
Thankyou Schumi you will always have a place in our hearts!

In 7 cases out of 10, the winner of the 1st grandprix became worldchampion.
So, with that said, i think Hamilton will win in Malaysia.
With the BMW-Saubers looking very strong last weekend, i think quick nick will be second.
And third will be Raikkonen or Massa, i think.
Hopefully i`m wrong, because i sure want a 1-2 from ferrari to avoid that they will be in a hunting position like last year.

I hope any fight for first, second and third position, not like Melbourne.

Alonso first, seems very very dificult. Maybe with rain, but even that, seems dificult that car can ended another race. I hope atleast he scored some points (there are not practice this week, so will be the same car, and Renaults, its very slowy).

And please, this SC rule are very bad, remove it!!!!. Cars should enter pit while SC is on track

This will be hard to predict, im not sure which teams will best perform here, i can go with the safe bet and say ferrari because that car is going to love the long straights but im going to go with BMW they (Kubica) had an amazing attemp at pole at australia and i think the momentum will carry them.

I wont make any predictions at all. The chances for rain are very high (all three days!) and then anything can happen. Piquet may win, for all I know. I hope rain will be to Alonso's advantage, though.

Only prediction I will make is that if it rains Massa will do some spinning... :cheezy:

Hope for rain on Malaysia, and then we'll see a great race with some outsider like Alonso or Vettel.
Without strange weather conditions, i think the battle is still Raikkonen/Hamilton.

Force India is gonna win. Ok I was just joking. I know its a long shot but hey I'm indian so might as well support them.

But it should be a great show if its raining. Im sure a lot more people are not gonna finish.

Prediction is difficult here. Though, I am sure we are going to witness some action packed race. If Melbourne can bring excitement ..imagine Malaysian race. And the rain factor will be like ..icing on the cake! !yahoo:
